So, do the 3.5L, v6, 6 sp Automatic Tranny Tacos have an external Trans oil cooler mounted in front of the rad or is it part of the regular rad?

I thought they all 3.5L V6 Automatic Trans had trans oil coolers standard.

They don't have them on 2020, and the trans work fine for towing with no external cooler.

Toyota eliminated it on the 2020 and newer Tacos. There are threads dedicated to it from surprised owners

Early 2020's had them. They took it away in the the spring sometime. Mine was ordered by the original dealership in March 2020 according to the specs in the Toyota app. Mine does not have the external cooler.

There is a trans cooler built into the rad like most vehicles. Trucks with the towing package had an external cooler plumbed in series with the built-in cooler. The external cooler was eliminated middle of this year as per the other thread.

Anyway, I was responsible for making the T-Day Chicken - only 2 couples ...

I had a 2006 4L Tacoma 5 Sp, Auto Tranny Pre-runner and saw the Tran-oil cooler mounted in front of the Main radiator.
On the material for the 2021 it says it has an 'AT Cooler'

    upload_2020-11-26_18-6-14.jpg

I open the hood on the 2021, 3.5L Auto Tran, 6 sp TRD Sport to check, and I expected to see the 'AT cooler' in the same spot . Its not there.
Is something missing? Is this how it is now?
Thus, the reason for my question.

Mine was built in Feb of 2020 and has the separate trans cooler.

As it’s already been said, it has an internal trans cooler. They’ve deleted the additional external cooler.

So, from my readings Toyota says in the literature that there is an ATF cooler included, but the external cooler is not there.
The postings from the suggested thread on pgs 38-44 (
https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/missing-transmission-cooler.671079/) indicate that its not included.

I bought the truck relying on the fact it had the cooler - since I tow our camper ( 1500 lbs) here in AZ and wanted the same ATF cooling as I had with the 2006 Taco, V6, 4L Auto tran Prerunner.

    1) Are you saying that the current dealer set up can give me the same cooling as before?
    2) If not what to do? a) return it to the dealer and explain the situation?
    3) Add an additional external ATF Cooler? ( which seems to be what the threads indicate)

Truck is only 2 days old.

Take it up with Toyota corp and get your own cooler cause they aren't going to do anything for you.

I looked into this extensively. Adding an after market cooler opens you up to Toyota denying a warranty claim.

I chalked it up to the idea that Toyota would not jeopardize their reliable name on a $50 part. There is a video out there (half way down on this page: https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/08/missing-transmission-oil-cooler-2019-2020-toyota-tundra/), where a Toyota Engineer explains why the external cooler was removed.

Another consideration is that these trucks come with a 5yr/60k powertrain. As long as you don’t modify your powertrain (for example external cooler) you should be covered under warranty. As another level of protection I purchased Toyota’s premium 7yr/100k warranty

From what I’ve gathered, this is blown out of portion (like a lot of things on TW). Many concerned people but I couldn’t find anyone with a failed transmission after weeks of searching a few months ago

    my two cents...

I guess you missed this post in that thread? https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/missing-transmission-cooler.671079/page-9#post-23573270

There's a water-to-ATF cooler at the bottom of the transmission. You can see it if you looked under the truck next to the bellhousing on the passenger side. That would be what your truck's option sheet is referring to. This thing didn't exist in 2nd gens:

Toyota will not do anything. I dont see an issue long as he stays within the tow rating. Should stay below 4000 lbs in my opinion anyway. The 6000 lb rating may be the limit but you don't want to haul that with a Taco.
