2021 Tacoma - Will a 3-4” Lift & 33” Tires Mess With Safety features?

    Hey all,

    I just bought a 2021 TRD offroad Tacoma - and will now be selling my Jeep TJ to fund this new build.

    I’m thinking about a 3-5” suspension lift and some 33” tires - but I wanted to see what ya’ll have experiencied with regards to the safety features.

    Especially the adaptive cruise control - which I really like for long drives.

    Does that lift stop the safety features from working? If so, how easy is it to reprogram them with the new setup?

    I see Toyota has a new factory lift, but it’s 2” seems light, and it looks like you’d have to cut the truck to fit 33” tires with that factory lift setup - so I’m exploring larger lift options, but again - I want to see how that’d affect the truck’s built in features.

    Anyways, would love to hear from some of you who’ve experienced this first hand.

    Ps/ if anyone has suggestions on a lift, I’m all ears. I wont be doing super aggressive offroading, but I do like to hit low to medium difficulty trails - and I also like the look of the Tacoma on a lift/larger tires.

    Stick with 2”. Being a suspension lift, 3” is your max.

    Suspension lifts only give you tire clearance on flat ground. You’ll rub like crazy still when you compress the suspension unless you do some cutting, regardless of how much you lift.

    Kinda debatable. Toyota says lifting or switching out the grille will screw the sensor up but thats not really the case because I've never seen it happen.

    At 3 inches lift your down travel will be minimal and your ride quality will suffer. It will also lift a tire very easily in off-road situations. CV angles won’t be great, either. If you want 3 inches lift or more, going long travel suspension is the best option (and the most expensive).

    Other options include drop bracket lifts (like 6 inch lifts) which you won’t see much of here. This isn’t made for off road performance or ground clearance. It might get you the looks you want and be sufficient. I don’t have much experience with these on a Tacoma, but I’ve seen them. Companies like BDS and ReadyLift make this type of kit for full size trucks.

    To answer your question more directly, I haven’t seen anyone have problems with their TSS safety system with a 3 inch lift.

    I would get a 2” coil over lift with bilstein 6112 and 5160’s and an add a leaf and 255 tires. Zero rub, better ride, better fuel economy, same ground clearance as 285’s.

    wait …. That’s exactly what I did haha

    edit: also less power loss, and it can be aligned properly without new Upper control arms.
