WTF this is about the new Tundra. Gas prices are a cost of driving a truck. My buddy just got the new hybrid F150. He drove from South Carolina to Ohio and got 17mpg, 4 less than his old eco-boost. Turns out hybrid only helps at around town speeds. The new tundra is a necessary upgrade to stay competitive in the market. Not my cup of tea, but for others it will be great. I am a long haul owner. I keep them 10 or more years. I can't be the guinea pig for the "new and improved" drivetrain and transmission. The 5.7 is a proven battle tested warrior and has earned its reputation. I will keep my 2018 tundra and my 2015 taco until something forces me to change. As I get older it gets harder for me to buy into the hype. As far as my "gas guzzling" 5.7? I have an extra $850/month to buy gas with because it is paid off. Until you find one that runs on "free" it will be a hard sale. Sadly my towing needs for my business is going to make the next truck a 3/4 ton. I dread the day that I go back to the "big three" and decide which is the lesser of the trash. LOL Have a great weekend all!

OPEC! Are you kidding me? The policies of our federal government dictate the cost of a barrel of oil. Sure, it's the free market that sets the price but the Feds create scarcity by limiting production through, among other things, drilling rights and and and.... pipeline construction! Tax on a gallon of fuel plays a role, but your going to pay that tax in the near future with a mileage tax on electric and hybrid vehicles. There's no getting away from other people wanting to spend your money.

OPEC does play a role. Either way a legislation proposed VMT for electric cars that would be equivalent to the gas tax would be about nine tenths of a cent per mile. That’s a relatively small amount of money. The gas tax as it is small enough that it wouldn’t incentivize people to to jump to electric or hybrids for paying less in the tax. A greater incentive is getting better mpg, getting shit mpg like in the current gen tundra will cost you more money than the tax does.

I never said OPEC doesn't play a role, it's just far less of a role than our own Government; this isn't 1976. In Ohio it costs nearly 3 times more to register an electric vehicle + VMT + the inevitable state VMT + tax on your electric bill??? The $524.40 in total fuel tax and registration to drive a Tundra 12000 miles a year will seem cheap compared to EV tax.
I agree that better fuel economy is the key. Our 2021 Highlander (non-hybrid) get 31 MPG on the highway. Wouldn't 25-30 be fantastic in a Tundra (or Tacoma)!! The average Tacoma owner only save's about $40 a month in fuel over a Tundra.

Demand, cost of refining, transport costs and the price of a barrel of oil (determined by OPEC which American oil drillers are a part of). Taxes by the Feds and state are added afterwards.

If the new tundra shares the same frame ad the 300, and the next gen platforms are shared with the runner and tacoma, a 4 link tacoma in the works that shares the same frame as 300 and soon to be tundra and potentially 4runner we've got ourselves a contender for upgrading

I had nothing but leaf spring trucks previously and even though it's an SUV my Land Cruiser is 4 link and just the ride difference is amazing. Easy to change springs too for lift's etc.

The new Tundra could be the easiest truck to squat.

Do you care about a particular technology, or do you care about hp/tq/reliability/economy?

I care about reliability. Which is why I’m skeptical that a turbo six can be a million mile motor.

Granted. So do you have an alternate vendor for a V8 truck, if 'yota stops making them for whatever reason? Tbh, I have a 300k mile turbodiesel 4 that's done just fine with periodic maintenance, so I'm not saying that turbos are 'million mile' items, but they can definitely be maintainable and durable.
