With proper maintenance you can get high mileage out of any vehicle. Especially a Toyota engine. They have been making turbo engines since the 80's? Maybe longer?

My SUV is linked rear too, rides so much better than my Tacos, years ago on another forum I suggested that the Taco get a linked rear out of the 4Runner or Cruiser and was chastised for it. “Dude, it will be less of a truck then!” Ummmm….it can’t haul much they way it is now, it is a lifestyle vehicle, at least make it ride like one. Bedsides you can find independent suspension at all four corners on severe duty excavation equipment. Linking the rear on a Taco will be a much needed improvement.

It has taken 22 years to get my 1st Gen to almost 500’000 miles, not sure I’ll be alive if I try that with my new one. LOL!

Engines will be fine, it is all the components around that engine that will drive you nuts fixing. I have a long list of repairs that needed done over the years. Gave it a good run, but I am done. Ironically my wife wanted to keep it, even with a new truck…I’ll still have to wrench on the old one. Fraaaaack….. It developed a tick in the engine, either it is a simple valve adjustment or needs the head rebuilt. Among a bunch of other stuff that needs attending, new power steering pump, AC compressor, new ball joints (again), driveshaft carrier bearing (4th one), plus rebalance, u-joint on the steering shaft. Could use a fresh set of rear springs (4th set), but it won’t be haul anything ever again, so not going to replace those.

I looked into that years ago, and decided it wasn’t worth it. The rumors are sounding good with the 4th Gen, I may trade in a couple years…which is very uncharacteristic for me, as I like to squeeze every last penny out of things.

    None.
That’s not the point. Going with turbo sixes makes them Ford.

Toyota has been doing turbo sixes for quite some time now for the overseas market, albeit they are inline diesels, which supposedly have a service life of 500’000 miles. Wouldn’t worry too much about reliability. Good friend of mine is a fleet service manager, tells me that even the Fords are holding up well…no problem getting 200-300 thousand out of them.

    A few.
That doesnt make them Ford anymore than them putting a V8 in the first Tundra back in 2000.

If we go back far enough in history, Toyota’s are a cobbled together Jeep and Chevy. ;)

    LOL!

I grew up in a Ford family, my dad about disowned me when I brought a Toyota home. Haha! Remember we could barely get 100K out of those old Fords, and that is with a couple engine rebuilds and heavy body work tossed in there along the way.

I knew a guy that had an F150 with the 4.9L I6 that got 500,000 miles with no rebuild.
    But that’s a one-off.

Those were arguably one of the most durable engines Ford ever built. All of ours were construction work trucks, we beat the hell out of them.

The new Tundra looks like a GM, has a copy cat motor from a Ford, the rear suspension technology out of a Dodge, all that for the inflated price of a Toyota.

    Lol!

Gotta say the new GMC is better looking than the Tundra, plus available diesel, for those who have been crying about Toyota never tossing one in the US trucks.

I'd rather have the engine engineered by Toyota than Ford. Also, Toyota started their truck lines copying the Jeep. So the others can consider what Toyota improves about their vehicles a compliment.
