2023 Price Thread - What Did You Pay For Your Tacoma

I've read rumors of Toyota winding down manual production earlier than automatic gen 3s. Not sure why that would be the case, though. Maybe a supplier situation?
Fortunately I have one secured at MSRP, just antsy and want it get on the boat out of Mexico. ha!

 

Common among manufacturers for sure. GM stopped production on the 2.8 diesel in the twins before the production year ran its course. Making the diesel hard to find like the manual Tacoma.

 

What’s the point of coming on here to tell people how much we paid if you’re just on here talking shit?

 

How did you do the national search? I wasn't able to find a way to search by MT on Toyota's website but I might have missed the right option.

 

Cargurus, my favorite search engine. You can set distance to National, that’s only TRD OR not Sport included so there may be more. It works really well for engine options on other vehicles. For example if you want a 7.3 Godzilla Ford you can search for that engine. Also cheap to sell your vehicle there, sold 4 vehicles on their site fairly quick.

 

The best. It also has far better tools for weeding out the noise that proliferates on Autotrader and Cars dot com.

yep, trade-in is always a big part of the numbers story. so it looks like you paid ~MSRP?

 

For the benefit of future readers, there is an assumption that you’re going to get taken to the cleaners on trade-ins with dealers. Dealers take advantage of this assumption. in 2011 I traded in my 2006 for $6500 which was I don’t even know but around 6000 less than it was really worth because the dealer told me that it’s about to hit 100,000 miles, so the value will drop. Getting taken to the cleaners was what made be interested in this price topic. When I traded in my 2016 for my 2020, KBB trade in was 24, private party was 26.5. I traded in for 27,000. if you think dealerships, don’t influence what Kelley blue book puts on there for the trade-in value then you’re underestimating them. Yes, this of course influenced the percentage off MSRP and other price mitigating factors.
The point is that the Kelley blue book portion of the formula is there so that you walk in knowing what you should get. I always start my conversations at $500 above KBB private party value. Yes, the majority will laugh with you, but it’s their loss and words never hurt me. Understandably, the current climate of the market will not reflect this, but it never hurts to start a conversation with where you believe the market should be.

 

Took less than a week to find what I was looking for on a lot that wasn't already sold. Had to drive 3.5 hours to pick it up, but was worth it.

The ~$6K discount seems significant but the distributor and dealer add ons are mandated, whether you need/want them or not, as a way to increase the price of the vehicle. The true savings was closer to $3K in my opinion.
