I have a 2024 Tacoma Trd off road. It has the 4 way and 7 way plug with all wiring ( I heard some of the SR trim was missing the blue brake wire in 7 way). Everything is working correct. I can use the trailer check light feature and name trailer in dash menu and all lights work when trailer plugged in. Too me this means the truck must have the trailer brake control module I assume. My truck has the coin bin and no factory trailer brake controller. I believe the factory brake controller is the same as the one in the 2022 and up Tundra. So my question is does anyone know is I can just order the factory style trailer brake controller and just plug and play ?? I did speak with my dealer on the topic but there are zero help they knew nothing. If OEM route isnt an option ( confident it is with proper knowledge) does anyone know where the plug hides to install aftermarket harness and just use aftermarket controller...... Any help would be great THXS!!

I did remove coin holder I didnt see a harness. If Im guessing I need the oem trailer brake controller and the harness from the trailer brake controller to the trailer brake module.

No harness. Dealer installed an aftermarket in mine. The found the wire under the rear seat that goes to the 7 pin connector. So they installed the brake controller under the dash old school, they only difference is they only had to route 1 brake wire from the controller to under the seat. The rest was simpler, needed to bring power to the controller, and connect one wire to the brake switch behind the pedal.

Ok thanks for the info. Interesting that the dealer did it that way . I did find online the curt makes a harness to go to aftermarket controller. There part is 51455.

Not for the gen4, gen3 yes. There's no wiring harness to connect to under the dash like previous generation and every other manufacturer. At least that's what the dealer said and other posts on here if you search in this forum.

Thanks for the info and the link. I think Ill pull a few panels under the dash this weekend and poke around. Both Curt and Redarc offer truck to aftermarket controller plug and play harness for the 2024 Tacoma so I assume Toyota has provision for it. I also found it odd the some trucks were missing the blue brake wire from the rear seat area to the plug at the 7 way out back. Like I said mine truck looks complete blue wire is there , fuse and towing relay are there. Interesting topic Ill dig into it by removing panels on my truck ... Thxs again

Update ...... Not a good update lol . So far I pulled the lower panel off and poked around and unfortunately so far have not found much. Toyota Canada was not much help either. I spoke with a few dealerships and one was kinda helpful. He mentioned that the plug for an aftermarket trailer brake controller is possibly wrapped up in a harness and or taped off hidden and has seen this sort of thing before. When I get more time Im going to remove the trailer brake ecu and bracket and look behind it very hard to see with it in the way. Also the part # for the toyota brake controller the goes in place of the coin bin is 84391-AK010 ..... but of course need the still find the harness part # that goes from the controller to the trailer brake ecu. I am convinced the plug is hiding in there somewhere / or the parts to add the Toyota controller must be available . There is no way my truck has the complete wiring/fuses and relay and no plug and play option. Can't believe Toyota would make a customer run wires and tap into brake switch signal like an old style 1990s truck make zero sense. Thxs ..... if anyone has any more info please share Thxs again

Agreed, it's stupid not to include the harness. However, there's other stupid things.
    For example:
    • Toyota app tells me I forgot to rollup the windows, but doesn't give option to close them.
    • Toyota app lets me see where I am/was parked, but can't track in motion.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!

Bummer. It was an easy, plug-and-play install in my 3rd gen Tacoma, so I was hoping it’ll also be an easy install on the 4th gen Tacoma.

I agree with OP on this. Weirdest fruitball decision with the obfuscated unobtanium trailer brake harness. Sorry, OP, you spent more on your truck. As a punishment for not getting an SR5, don't plan on using a trailer brake controller?

I feel you man, I've been pestering Toyota Canada since March for information as well as dealers near and far. It's painstaking and bewildering if indeed there isn't a plug hidden somewhere. But so far no one anywhere has found it in trucks that didn't come with oem brake controller from factory.
    A few questions..as I'm also in Canada.
What's your build date as noted in Drivers door sticker? Mine is 05/24.
How did you confirm that the relay and fuses are present?
Better question do you have an picture of the relay I'm to look for and which fuse panel?

I got my TRD OR 2 weeks ago. Wanted to have them install oem controller but dealership despite many phone calls and emails to their tech support couldn't get a straight answer so they offered to have local Action Car Truck install a Redarc. Action assured them and me it could be done without issue.
I agreed and now truck is throwing fits because of Action's install. Likely didnt use Redarc diode. Funny part is I haven't even attached a trailer as I'm still in engine break in low kms. Just cycling the brake controller knob glitches truck to point where no driver assist programs are operation and reads systems malfuction contact dealer on dash. I have an appointment tomorrow a.m to work toward a resolution.
Redarc replied to me tonight with a very detailed step by step of how to properly install thrir brake controller in our 2024s so I'll be taking that to them of course.
But why in the world Toyota would withhold wiring in early built trucks, now include wiring and relay as in yours but still no plug.
It's a head scratcher and I think fair to say they dropped the ball.

For what it's worth, I've been using the Curt Bluetooth controller this year with pretty good results. Saves some time and money, and gives you the option to use it on multiple vehicles.

Thank You for the effort you are putting into this issue. I have a low option 2024 Off Road and would also442422628_7561781393887569_5126198926060194377_n.jpg like a Trailer Brake option'

Has anyone checked a truck with a factory brake controller to see if they could follow the wires? Here is my kick panel. There is a wire here that plugs into nothing.

If Curt is to be trusted (they say this works on 'select' 2024 Tacomas), the wiring harness will be rectangular. Unless there's a harness that plugs into the connector in your photo that has a rectangle output.

    The Curt harness:

I think that’s just the switch, there’s probably another part for the actual controller. And then Toyota would likely need to enable that feature.

The guy that installed a Redarc controller had to run the brake wire to the plug at the bumper.
