2024 Tacoma adding trailer brake controller OEM or aftermarket ??

Cheapest way is to spec an SR5 with one of the upgrade packages. Trailer brake controller is included in either one.

They also give you useful stuff (Leather wheel, Homelink, wireless charging, parking sensors) compared to the overpriced fluff in the $8k+ "upgrades" of the higher trims. That JBL speaker in the dash is actually a deal-breaker for me...

 

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. Unfortunately, in Canada, that flexibility doesn't exist in the ordering. I can only get what I want in the following configs:

TRD Off Road Premium (5-ft Bed)
TRD Sport+ (6-ft Bed)
TRD Sport Premium (6-ft Bed)

I am also looking at that front air dam, I don't care for it, and this might also impact my trim choice.

To get the trailer brake controller for those trims here means stupid expensive packages with a lot of silly stuff (like the JBL speaker in the dash).

At least you can get the nicer rubber mats than we get.

The problem is the wiring is not in the vehicle unless you have the factory brake control. There is nowhere to plug it into.

 

Well that really sucks...

I was able to put a Takonsha (sp?) brake controller in my Gen 2 TRD Sport no problem. Wiring hookup was right behind the dash by your left knee.

 

I'll say it again...if they're putting a towing package in the brake controller should be standard.

 

Is this everything you need for a 3rd gen? The websites doesn't say if you have to buy extra things or is this just a complete package. Thanks.

 

Are you 100% positive?

 

If it ever warms up, I'll dig under the dash and see if I have the J54 connector tucked up in there, buy the factory switch and see if it works.

No blue wire in my SR5 2025. Wasn't about to go through the hassle of running one. I just ended up buying the Curt ECHO
