No 3rd gen gets higher mpg than my 2nd Gen. Mine is rated 27 mpg highway and that's about what I get. They kept making the trucks heavier and less aerodynamic without improving fuel economy - until the 4th Gen.

Don’t have to trade. Keep your 3rd gen and get something new if you’re itching for a new car. For me it’s my first time owning a truck and all previous gen taco I didn’t really like. The 4th gen caught my interest last year and I purposely waited one year for all the bugs to be addressed because I’m old enough to know all new model first year have issues. I I could have traded my BMW X5 for the new truck but I decided to keep it since it’s paid off and still drives like new.

Just curious what configuration your truck is, best number 2nd Gen l could find was 25 MPG highway on a manual 4 cylinder 2wd access cab

I am in the Midwest and got my 2025 SR5 double cab Tacoma about two weeks ago. It has 4WD and heated seats as the added options. The sale price was $39.5k before taxes, title, and fees. The dealership I went two had two other SR5s on the lot but they were a bit more expensive as they had a few more options.

If that's your original window sticker, be aware that the EPA refactored how they calculate MPGs in the 2000s. Vehicles rated before the cutoff have seen their official ratings drop by a couple MPG.

Doesn't matter to me. The last gen3 I shopped had 23 mpg highway. The gen4 is 26 mpg highway. Maybe because of the EPA changes, 26 mpg in 2025 is close to what 27 mpg was in 2006. In any case, 26 mpg in 2025 is better than 23 mpg in 2023.
