i have a surging idle when i press in the brake..ive read a couple post where it talks about the idle screw, well i have that screwed all the way in already. Replaced vacuum lines, iac, pcv, and the vsv. How else can i lower the idle. Timing and TPS are also set to spec from haynes manual

It's to do with the coolant system. Looks to be between the fuel injectors

Does it surge during warm up high idle? First unplug tps and see if it changes. Pull TB and completely clean.

Then move on to the ect sensor. It is directly under the thermostat neck, pointing straight towards the radiator. But first thing to do is make sure coolant is full and burped. I have never seen the sensor fail, but i have seen lots of connectors broken off it during belt changes.

If this is in conjunction with continued loss of coolant and no heat, then chances are high that it is HG time.

Only occurs when brake pedal is pressed? If so, brake booster is faulty.

Tps is adjusted to spec and throttle body was just replaced. It doesnt not surge at high idle while warming up though. Only surges after its warm and while im braking. Coolant level is also good.

Does the timing jump when you jumper te1 and e1?

Still worth unplugging the tps and see if it stops surging. It is almost always low coolant, but i have seen tps IDL setting do the same thing. The key to why it is worth trying is that the idle screw isnt responding, which means that either the ecu thinks it is not at idle or is in cold startup(iac).

If you got TB cleaner anywhere around the tps then it would be suspect. I see them bad out of the box, they will ohm out but wont sweep the range properly.

IF you find it clears up with tps disconnected then the best way to set it is to find the spot right before it clicks and idles up. Get it as close to that spot and all the other settings will be within spec. Dont bother with the feeler guages. Change the screws to allen heads.

I have also seen a few broken wires in the tps pigtail. Works fine in the shop and then craps out when motor is driven.

But just a simple disconnect and drive around the block will allow you to eliminate it from your list. Then pull the ect sensor and check it out.
