Well, the manual that came with the truck states that the listed power and economy numbers were determined using 91 octane. Around home we usually have 87, 89, and 93. I've also heard the higher octane burns a bit cleaner. I have seen evidence that 93 can produce more power, even if only slightly, but usually only if the engine can recognize it and adjust the timing suitably.

The bottom line is that only costs an extra $2-$4 per fill up and I think it's worth it to ensure the engine runs as cleanly and efficiently as possible.

    Cool,

I may need to try it.

I have been monitoring things with my scan guage and I know for sure the non ethanol 87 I have ran before just
    runs smoother.

I can get non-ethanol in 91 or 93. May have to try it...

Its off by about 4% so multiply your mileage by 4% then add that back in. So if you went 300 miles according to the odometer you actually went 312

Yea man, try the non ethanol for sure. I wish I could get it around home but the only places that sell it are marinas and airports... One year on a roadtrip in my sister's Honda Fit we got pure gasoline in Iowa or something and got like 52 mpg! That was about 10 or 12 more than we'd been getting the whole trip!

    I'll try it soon enough.

The station is only about 2 miles from the house and on the way to work to boot!

They look good, pull good, fairly quiet, rugged, etc.but they do have an appetite for a little more fuel.

I'm in the middle of a 5000 mile road trip and I'm super happy with mine. The toyo open country are quiet on the highway and provide great traction offroad. We've seen dirt, gravel, slick rock, and a little mud on my trip and haven't had one complaint. We recently did some improved roads (graded gravel) in San Rafael Swell at 50-60mph with no fear of flats because of the heavy dutiness of these tires. I would have been nervous doing some of this stuff we did with my Dunlops.

    Check out out!

Thanks man, yeah that is a good thing, having dependable tires like that on a road trip, with load range e. Great photos btw, very cool road trip. its a very interesting tire size, being a bit higher yet practically same width as the 245s. I really have not been disppointed with the 245s, so this kinda would be a step up w the 235,85 yet i am hesitant with the load range and weight.

Check out some specs, some are a lot lighter than others. General grabbers are like 51lbs while Hercules terra tracs are about 40.

They will work fine that way. You don't even need new control arms unless you are lifting, and even then some don't use them.

Why are the Generals so much heavier?

I was looking at them last night in 235s and they are a great price on Tread Depot.com but the weight compared to others has to be due to a design or assembly difference.

I've had my Cooper AT3 in 235/85 on for a month or so now with quite a few miles under my belt and I believe after I eat through this set I'm not going to get another set of load range E tires. The ride isn't bad but definitely more stiff and for the type of driving I do it's hard to justify any impact to mileage, weight or ride quality, regardless of how small. I do like the size, if they'd come out with a load range C I'd go with it in a heartbeat but I feel E is too much for me.

Of course now that hunting season is starting I may totally change my mind as all my spots require 4wd, etc to get to. The stock Dunlops made this difficult last year with snow on the ground so perhaps I'll really see the benefit of a LR E tire in 235/85 soon.

The harsher ride is sorta what ive been guesstimating, especially with the width. I work w my truck and at my current job the roads are rough in sections, with alot of stop signs and lights. So i have been imagining how these tires would be. Also i do not offroad enough to warrant them. They are very cool tires though, if they had a 245,80 in c range, i would buy them because the 245 75 do not look so bad on a reg cab to me. Always liked the totally level fords w the the tall tires, so the 235s and 245s sorta reminded me of those. Sometimes the 265s on reg cabs remind me of the ever popular jeeps, but the 265s have too many positive reviews to not listen.

I'd like to feel the difference between a 235/85 E and 265/75 C or even P rated. You can find 265/75 tires lighter than a 235/85 in E which is probably what I'll try next. My truck is fair light which I suspect plays in the stiffer right with the E tires

I have to realistically go with a lighter tire, as my work gear is light, i dont tow anything and simply dont have the time to offroad much. I might go with a 245 c or light 265, if i were in a rural area with mostly highway miles and more offroading, it would make more sense to go w the 235s.
