For what it’s worth, pad area doesn’t affect braking forces like piston area does, in fact in most cases it isn’t even used in the force calculations.

But yeah, like was said, all things equal, larger piston at the caliper increases braking force at a given pedal force. A larger master does the opposite, decreasing braking force for a given pedal force.

Force creates pressure. Force/Area = pressure.

in thinking this through, the pad area is vital in transferring and distributing the mechanical friction energy into heat energy. Its all about overall system design, and components matched to achieve the goal.

Pad area is important for thermal management and even force application. It’s a vital aspect of the braking system’s overall performance, it just doesn’t need to be considered when calculating braking force.

Why are you arguing a point that has zero to do with this thread? Not just that, but you are trying to argue against an incredibly well researched aspect with zero common sense applied to your argument.

I didn’t bring the point up, I was just offering some clarity to someone else’s point that was brought up.

As for research and common sense, I’m a mechanical engineer who spent a couple of years designing braking systems including writing a research paper on brake rotor design and thermal simulation.

Part of the reason I mentioned it in the first place was precisely because most people’s common sense would tell them pad area matters.

Mine got Ghia front rotors, amazing upgrade but I’m keeping the drums on my Tacoma.

Wasn't referring to you. In fact, most of what you have said is why I mentioned the common sense and thoroughly researched aspect to begin with.

I guess I should have quoted the posts I was referring to instead, but oh well. I don't believe it is going to matter anyway. We will still have people in here trying to claim if you change any aspect from stock your truck will blow up...
