Just like everyone else I want a lil better mpg if possible and the 255 will be better in the Chicagoland snow.

So I am planning on running some 255/70/17 instead. Drops the tire weight and tread footprint. I know it is not much but plan on doing all the little things I can to help out the mpg.

On the plus side that size is pretty cheap for the revo 2's

I was reading some build details and sigs with that size stated but could not find any pics, no luck searching on google either.

Stock height is 30.6 and these are 31.1 so just a touch taller and a touch narrower.

I know most run the 265/70/17.

Please post up some front and side pics if you have any.

    TIA

    I am second gen.

I just found it odd that it is a bit taller than stock and a little narrower but not one since pic on the net can get found with them on a 2nd gen tacoma.

I can find the 255/75/17 all over but they are a 32" tire just like the 265/70/17

I would go 255/75 but they weight in about 4lbs more per tire.

I know in 16s, almost all 255s are E load so very heavy.

I ended up ordering some grabber AT2 in 255/70/17 for $600 to my door. Will have a buddy mount up.

16/32 tread and weigh 39 pounds only. Should cut through the puddles and snow a little better since they are a touch narrower.

Hoping it will keep MPG the same since they are barely taller and 1st gear is deep already it should.

Being narrower should offset the all terrain tread pattern.

As you can see I care about my mpg a good bit and is why I researched my tire so much before buying them. Did not want something like a highway tread for my truck.

Doing some 5100 all around just waiting for them to get shipped. Likely go .85 at first and see how it sits. If I get the TSB I will 1.75

They are in transit to me. I will post up once I get them should be on in under a week.

I ended up getting Hankook ATM since the grabbers are on national backorder in the size. General has not made them in the last 3-4 months and do not plan to for another 2-3 months they told me. They stated it is a supply and demand issue causing them not to be made.

They only have two tires at their main warehouse. I was unable to find any at a retailer near me. I feel that is poor customer service that they advertise a product as part of their line but it is not available for a half of year maybe even longer.

So I researched the hankook atm and it comes in at 37 pounds and gets good reviews on here and else where. Same size 255/70/17 but if you look at tread width it is almost on par with most other brands 265 width.

They only delivered 3 out of the 4.

Not sure the reason. Should see the other one tomorrow I am guessing, or never

Can't wait to see pics.... I've been doing exactly the same search- decent tread, low weight and maybe a touch narrower for winter use. Let us know!

Not hating , just asking , why did you go 255/70/17 and not 255/75/17 Hankook ATm's ?

    EDIT : Nevermind

3 year old thread is old

Hey all I know this thread is old BUT I’m considering this size tire for many reasons. I don’t need big floaters almost never off road.
I don’t want a hit on my mpgs I’m happy with 17/18 city 21/23 highway.
The Dunlop grandtrecks have been good to me but are nearing replacement time. The Dunlop’s are lighter and thinner than most 265/65/17 tires, so I’m looking for something as close as possible.
The 255/70/17 hankooks are .1 thinner on tread with that’s fine with me.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ approx 1 to 2 lbs heavier ,ok.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ .5 taller great and terrible?
My biggest concern is changing my gearing, I pull a 18 foot bass boat alot. Tacoma does acceptable now it’s not a 1/2 ton v8 pull but I’m happy.

Does anybody have any real world experience or thoughts on how much a .5 inch taller tire will effect my low end grunt pulling and just everyday driving. Thank you to all constructive thoughts.
