Don't think I am coming off as a jerk but I think you have answered your own question. It might not rub but it might rub as well. I think a lot of depends on how well the truck is in alignment and if you actually plan on leaving the paved road and do some offroading. I would plan on it rubbing and then you won't be disappointed.

It's no.....the 255/85/16 size is 33.1" tall and 10" wide.....the stock 265/70/16s are 10.4" wide and only 30.6" tall.....the tallest tire you can put on your truck with no rubbing whatsoever is 265/75/16 which is 10.4" wide and 31.6" tall

the 255/85/16s are basically the same size as 285/75/16 (just about an inch narrower) and they don't fit by a long shot

That said, that's no rubbing AT ALL......a lot of guys on here say they run the 285s with "no rubbing" but that just means they never do u-turns or squash the wheel all the way up in the well. The 33" tires are a livable size for some

I have the ST Maxx in 255/85/16 on F5s with 16x8 4.5" bs and they rub on the mud flaps. Removed the flaps and no rubbing no matter how hard I flexed it. I put them back on until winter is over and tweaked with a heat gun. Manageable rub now. On stock OR suspension.
I was in the same boat as you with claims of stock 25mm offset not rubbing. I'm at 0 offset and rubbed. I'm ok with that to not run stock wheels.

I've messaged a bunch of guys on here and in groups on Facebook and have been assured by no less than 7 people they are running 255/85r16s on stock OR suspension without rub flexed and locked. A few of them were even running mudflaps. I went to the tire shop yesterday and ordered 4 ST Maxxs in that size, so if they go on later this week I'll let you know.

    Your welcome,

I have a 2015 and have a used 255 coming to put on an extra spare steel wheel, I’m going to get it mounted and balanced then test fit it. I only have about a 1” lift in the front from my 3rd Gen OR susp swap but using stock wheels is the key here to allow the tire the needed room it may need.

After “sampling” 265 KM2s my little 2.7 performed great with those tires being heavy, there very well might be some 255s in my future.

They honestly didn't do terrible in an 8" snow fall before I switched to my arctics. Not anywhere near as much lateral stability as the dedicated snow tires, but for a mud terrain I was impressed.

My coopers have been chunking like crazy lately! They have ~25k miles on them and I’m contemplating getting rid of them. BFG is about to release the KM3s in 255/85/16 so I think I’m going to snag them.

Mostly rocks. Went to URE and they did fine. Then I went to Windrock and they took a beating there and I noticed the chunking to start bad after then. Recently, I’ve been driving fireroads around where I live (nothing fast and Baja style) and the chunking has gotten worse.
