Went with slotted , drilled rotor's with HD pads from Detroit Axle on Amazon. At my door for 140.00 , two years and 26000 miles ago. No problems, work fine, little dust but not out of line...

Hey buddy, next time maybe brake the Xanax in half before posting. Not everybody is looking for an upgrade that involves a huge ordeal. The OEM brakes work fine, are you racing NASCAR every weekend? Sure the Taco brakes aren't the greatest but they get us by. By your logic you might as well put a diesel or LS engine in there while you're at it because the OEM wasn't up to your standards.

I’m planning on replacing them tomorrow. Is there anything wrong with buying a shim kit from a auto parts store vs the dealership?

Shims are shims for the most part. How are the originals? Reusable? If they're not bent just swap them over to the new pads

OP you’re going to need some custom carbon ceramic brakes with a disc conversion rear, and a parachute for when slowing down from really high speeds. Also recommend you permanently roll down your passenger window, have a an anchor with a chain running to the rear of the frame and just weld the chain where ever works so you can drop the anchor whenever needed.
