Good point, I might just go that route then, since I was planning on using a DPDT to accommodate both the Cam and nav bypass.

    @jshsltr
Hello, I'm new to the forum after researching adding some ICE to my tacoma. I was unaware of all these harness mods, so now I have questions.
    1. The first post in this thread mentions accessing the steering wheel control inputs as well as the remote microphone. I didn't see anyone discussing these mods and what they could do. Anyone care to share?
    2. In the diagram above pins 11 & 15 appear to be jumpered. What does this do?
    3. Same question regarding pins 12 & 25. What do they do?
    4. Are pins 26, 27 & 28 for the additional in-line audio AUX input?
    5. Among other things, I plan on adding more cams with the 6 input video switch linked below. If I use that do I need to do anything with the video input RCA jack wiring of pins 13 & 14? (is that just a quick hack to add one cam outside of the factory rear cam wiring?):
    http://www.brandmotion.com/360-vision/blind-spot/6-way-video-switcher-9002-6118.html

I'm buying parts and would like to do everything at once so this will help me diagram my plan.

    Thanks!

Just wanted to send a shoutout to jshsltr for this harness and those who contributed info and wiring ideas. I used the harness and a DPDT switch to setup the vechile in motion override and rear camera on demand mod. Ended up using the small Digi-Key switch and placed on the gauge surround behind the wiper Switch as in the attached picture. I set it up so that up is normal factory, middle is nav override, and down is backup camera on. Works like a charm and at $20 is hard to beat.

Hey @jshsltr, same as above, do you accommodate this type of request or do us less electro-savvy guys need to just cross our fingers and hope for the best? :fingerscrossed:

I am really wanting secondary A/V input for phone mirroring and the motion sensor bypass for co-pilot GPS utilization. I've sourced the RCA mirroring device, but I'm really not experienced with this type of mod.

I think I'm gonna need to pull the trigger either way in the next day or 2 either way, so gratitude to you regardless.

Not sure how I missed this post. The nav lockout override is pretty simple. Just cut the 17 wire and put a switch in the middle.

I havent tested it, but I believe the aux input should accept an A/V signal without cutting any wires. Just adapt the RCA to a 3.5mm A/V jack. It might be worth trying this to see if it would work.

That is the 1st I've heard of the AUX supporting video. I was under the impression you had to get the A/V source to appear on the head unit or does the source appear when the video is detected in the AUX port? Is there any confirmation of this? (Photo for ref.)

@jshsltr Tested last night with an old camcorder, no video is detected (Audio only) on the HU using the 4-pole 3.5mm connector in the AUX port. Plugged the same test rig into an old insignia headrest LCD and it worked fine. Any ideas?

The only other way I have found to input an A/V signal is using pins 13/14 and 26/27/28 on the harness. The pinout is available in this thread. I attached rca cable to those pins on my harness, but have never added an A/V source to verify function.

Ok, that is now the route I am on with the adapter.

I'm assuming you cannot verify that the new "A/V" source appears as an option on the HU by simply using those connections you mentioned since you haven't tested it... I recall seeing somewhere that some additional jumping was required, but no real confirmation of this. If anyone else can confirm this feel free to jump in!

I am in the process of wiring a front camera. You have to mod pin 11-15 and 12-25 for the A/V source to appear. Then connect video to 13-14. Theres another thread that shows how to do that. However, when I did it it worked fine at a stop but when moving it tells you that you cant watch TV in a moving car. Or something like that. I cut pin 17 and the message goes away but the navigation is not working properly with 17 disconnected.

@bstrange Thanks for your input - that's what I needed to know! So it would seem simply jumping the A/V signal via RCA connectors would be useless without jumping 11->15 and 12->24...

From what I understand opening the circuit on 17 will cause the side-effect you mentioned on 3rd gens. I'm wondering if there is an actual mod (not just cutting the wire) that can be done on 17 to trick the system and avoid the loss of functionality on the GPS?

I think theres a way to do it, I seem to recall seeing something about an extra circuit being added to strip off the GPS signal but Im not certain.

If you add a switch on 17 you should be ok. Your probably not going to be using the video input and trying to use the navigation at the same time?

@bstrange - My interest/concern with opening the circuit on 17 isn't for watching video while in motion, but rather my wife or myself entering destinations into the GPS while the vehicle is in motion. I'll put in a small switch on 17 until I hear of a way to trick the system. If you discover an alternate method please do share!
