Why is pin 15 not cut in this schematic? Wouldn't the warning parking brake come in if not cut?

Gotcha. So that means I should cut 15, correct?

Also, do I need to add a switch to pin 17 to use the camera if going above a certain speed? Or is that optional?

One more question for the people who used the 28 pin harness.
If I plug in a front camera to the video in, and I shift to reverse, does the HU automatically go back to displaying the front camera when I shift to drive (assuming I was in A/V mode displaying the camera before I shifted into reverse?), or does it go back to "Home" or some other screen?

Yes if you want to use HU for front camera or mirroring. Switch is needed but not necessary to mount on dashboard. Switch may use when you want Navigation update your location faster.

I have a 2017 4Runner Limited with navigation (JBL). I wanted to ask:
    1. Are the 28 pin connector locations for the backup camera and the speed sensor wire are the same the same for my head unit?
    2. Is the supplied diode soldered to the harness, or will I have to do this (not a problem if so).

    Thanks in advance!

I have a 2016 4Runner. I have not pulled it apart yet to check the plug config on the HU. Since it's my wife's daily I'm not sure I will get around to it any time soon.
This post shows a 2015, and the 28pin is the same as the Tacoma.

The diodes are not soldered by default. I have found it is generally easier to do the diode soldering at the same time wires are soldered if you are soldering them at the same points.

    JSHSLTR,

just wanted to let you know that my research shows the 4Runner pinouts to be the same. I just placed my order, and will post back with results.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up. I tried to message Josh, but haven't heard back. Guess I'll just order and hope for the best.
