I’ve got a 3” lift and i’ve got 33” inch wheels on the way. I’m wondering if a re-gear or OVT is necessary. My truck is more of a daily driver with the occasional highway speeds. Not sure if a re-gear is required. Any opinions?

You don't need a re gear. Not even necessary. I would save your money for other mods tbh

Is it an absolute requirement? No. Is it needed? That’s subjective. For me, I went to 4.88s and it was worth every penny. I got tired of the constant shifting. But I am always driving long distances at 80ish mph. It just depends on your use case

This, but you don't know what you're missing if you never had it. Run the ECT in 5th if the gear hunting gets too annoying. Save up and do the re-gear when it makes sense for you.

For 3rd gen's with the 3.5 that likes to be revved out to get into the meat of the powerband, yes. For 2nd gen's that already have power available at a much lower RPM it isn't really "needed".

same lift here as far as 3" 33's. No regear, no issues or wants. Haul motorcycles and jumping jack trailer, no issues. Have 60,000 on the lift. As stated above it is subjective. Put the lift on and run it. You will know in good time whether you feel you need the regear.

Not necessary. I ran with that setup on stock gears for 2 years. Truck rarely finds 5th/6th and is under-torqued, but it's fine. If I had the money/knowledge at the time, I would've got 5.29's, hindsight is 20/20. Anything bigger than 33s and a regear is required to get adequate performance

Good info on here. Im only running 33" tires, but tow a 3500 lb trailer and a lighter trailer often. Torn between getting 4.88 or 5.29. Going up steep inclines it will be fighting to get out of 2nd sometimes.

I also have steel bumper winch rocksliders skids roof rack bed rack. 5.29’s will be much better than the 4.88’s that are in it now

Like the other 2nd gen guy said, I think my 2013 drives great with 33s no re gear. If you plan on running 65lb tires maybe but if you're around the mid 50s for weight should be good stock.
