I had to grind the crap out of my '87 4runner calipers to fit those wheels. I'm surprised you mounted the tires instead of returning the wheels and getting some that properly fit, no douche intended.

I would have if it weren't so close. With a 1/4 inch spacer it barely scrapes with no shaving of the wheel and caliper.

I'm aware of my hard headedness. Truthfully I had told myself I'd makem work so that I could get rolling sooner (bad idea)

Should have done just that though.

Personally I would shave the caliper, and get longer studs for a 1/4" spacer, since you're pretty stuck with these wheels now :p.

With the way you just test fit them, you're gonna have to do a crap load of cutting for a fairly small tire.

It'll be fun. I can't think of anything I'd rather do than chop up a Tacoma

I kind of got over the mutilating vehicles butterflies at my last job. I was for sure nervous about messing up at first and my confidence/screw it mentality slowly built. We would build Police cars from time to time and cut up and drill through spankin new cars, it was great. I remember drilling big holes through the A pillar of some new Dodge 1500's for the Spotlights on Naval Special Weapons Truck. Built some undercover Stang's for the City of Chesapeake too, that was cool cuttin holes in the perfectly new bumper for lights. Something special about taking away thier virginity with a power tool. I had a good senior tech show me some tips and tricks along the way so it's not like it was all me.

Somewhere down the road I can see 35 x12.50's
and then there will be more:sawzall:

They 285/75r17's sure dont look small to me but maybe to more hardcore wheelers they do.

I'm stoked about this size and think it will suit me well. Most of what I do know about Tacomas came from reading this site. I hope to learn more and become a better researcher with more patience. I get excited and the next thing I know shit's gettin ordered!

I'm sure I had to trim more because of the spacers. Trimmed until I could turn lock to lock today. Welding up the cab mount that I cut tomorrow. Beat the pinch weld back flat and cut some off of the flare, front bumper and fender liner. I have some fender liner from a Super Duty that I'm going to cover up everthing with. Drove for about an hour today with no rubbing. I have not flexed out yet.

The key is the fine print of *up to 15mbps..........

I have no other viable option as of now. I'm not moving to the city. I can roll ut my front door and bump fire a mag through the AK and all is well. Just the way I like it.

    On beer 5.

You're still going to have to cut your cab mount again. Might as well do it now.

Yeah I heard the rubbing backing out the driveway and chopped some more past what the first pic shows. Took another angle at it so now two plates will get'r done. Once you hear and smell the cutoff wheel your commited haha. I plan to do some flexing tomorrow and cut what's needed to get the travel I want. When it's all done I will put the inner fender plastics on to keep the muck out of the crevices.

I was going to cut a sheet of polybutylene I had for the inner fender and I found that my dad had four of these liners that he had gotten for his Super Duty a while back and never used (sold that truck and got a Dodge 2500).

Hopefully this helps some folks interested in this tire size. I suppose going to a 35" tire only gets you 1/2" more ground clearance. To me these are plenty big enough for a little Tacoma. I got lazy today I suppose and didn't weld the cab mounts. I did do a little bit of light wheeling/flexing and mudding (if you can call one sloppy mudhole on a logging road mudding). Oh there is more to trim for sure but you have to flex pretty hard to make the rear tires hit the flare and the front is 85% where I want it. I bet if I took off the swaybar that I would really mash some plastic up front. I didnt see of the front was on the bump stop but if folks with 35's are trimming 2"+ off of the flares and these are only 1/2" back from that...........But like others have said, wheels spacers, wheel width and backspacing play a role in how much you have to trim.

Mine are 17x9 4.25BS and 1.25inch spacer up front, no spacer in the rear.

    Front is 5100's set at 2 1/2"

I have the Deaver AAL pack and a 2 degree shim out back = about 2 1/2" lift in the rear

To be honest, I would trim your cab mount as far back as possible. You might have to actually cut into the "circle" opening a little, and then plate it back in. With that bs you are pretty much clearancing like you would for 35's.

Those look like they have about the same amount of sidewall a 285/75/16 has. I dig it, that's way I stayed with 16's for the bigger sidewall over 17's. I may switch to 17's after seeing this.
