Correct! The sidewalls on any 285/75 tire will be the same height, regardless of rim size.

There's a few 285/75r18 tires floating around out there too. Which is a 35x11.5!

That's cool but this thread is about clearing 285/75/17's which is larger diameter than the tire you have.

Very informative to those that want to run 285/70/17's but this particular thread is about 285/75/17's which is an inch taller

I might not be totally opposed to a set of 18" Methods :anonymous: (as long as they were wrapped with 35s or bigger)

So what would you guys say about this size in comparison to a 295/70r17? Which one requires more trimming?

They will be pretty similar. The 295 is slightly wider but the 285/75/17 is slightly taller. No one will be able to tell you for sure, unless they had those same sizes mounted on the same truck to compare. Even then, every truck's alignment is different, so no definite answer.

So, most people with oversized tires dont pay to close attention to mpg, but I got 16.9mpg. That's with the 10.5% size difference added to the odometer reading / gals. That's mixed driving, half highway and around town, some idling with the AC on and yep I punched it a few times too. Before with my 265/70r16 I got 18.5-21mpg. I'm happy with a 1.5 mpg hit.

Did more flexing and trimming on the cab side of the front flares and on the inner fender up front by the bumper. Might have to bash the firewall/metal inner fender in some too but I haven't yet. A lot of electronics behind there so I will be careful as possible.

For the back I have not done any trimming and under hard on the bump stop stuff it contacts pretty much the entire way around. I need to read more about those who have extended their bump stop out back. Possibly that with the combination of U bolt flip.

Almost there. It kind of therapeutic chopping on the truck after work.

So since you have been driving them for a little while, how does the stock gears do with this size?

I only ran these tires for a few days with stock gears, and I did not like it. Sluggish and constantly down-shifting on the highway. I installed 4.56 gears.

Tire size in this thread is 285/75r17
