This thread helped me choose whether to go 285/75r17 or 285/70r17. I've made the right decision to go with 285/75r17! It looks so good with my methods and just overall looks better with the meatier sidewalls :D. Upon on doing lots of research just like what CharlesCity had to do, I had to do somewhat of a big CMC and LOTS, LOTS, of trimming. Otherwise, my truck doesn't rub and only rubs on hard flexing. But with these big wheels did cost me some as it did pop out my front flares out but new clips will fix it! Here are some pics of true 285/75r17 and not 285/75r16 nor 285/70r17 not everyone posts in this thread. If you guys have any more questions or need more pictures, feel free to ask :).

To run this setup I have a ToyTec 3in Bilstein 5100 w/ AAL, CMC, and Tons of trimming on the inner fender lining and fenders

In regard to tire size, what do you guys think causes the most fitment issues - diameter or width??

This might be my next tire size, but I'm also considering the 275/80R17 MTR, which are 34.5 diameter and 10.8 width. Quite a bit skinnier than these 285's. I'm ready to cmc, trim, and do a bit of cutting, but I'd still rather minimize it.

It's going to be the same of both.

Width will be a killer and diameter.
Pinch weld and CMC are pretty much a guarantee at this size. Not to mention regear.

Once you get some weight even a 33 285 70 17 is needing a regear. I thought it was fine until I added bumper.

Also for guys to consider most 35s like a 315 70 17 actually measure around 34.6 vs these actually measuring to 34 usually.

So it's very close in size to a 35 without the width.
The 12.5"wide is a killer when it comes to 35s. That's when back spacing etc becomes a lot to think of

Ordered the KO2 285/75R17's. Should be here in about a week.

Last week did the cmc and trimmed a good chunk off of the lower part of the fender. Heat-gunned the fender liners back. I'm guessing I'll be good to go, but we'll see once they're mounted.

I've been running the KO2 34X10.5/17 tires with zero rubbing issues, and these tires won't be that much bigger.

SPC UCAs are giving me 2.6 caster at the moment.

Since I did dirt king lowers paired with the TC uppers I had I now have 4.2 Caster.

I'll probably try a 34 when my 33s wear out

I'm still rocking the stock bumper - so I need to find the caster sweet spot.

They're on, and so far so good. Daily driving has zero rubs. I'm sure I'll find something when I actually get on a trail though!

Just mounted my ridge grapplers this last weekend (285/75R17). I have bilstein 6112 up front set one notch below max (Fox 2.5 adjustabls in transit!). I rub in reverse on the driver side but will do some more trimming this weekend. I did the pinch weld, cab mount relocation, inner fender liners chopped and some plastic trimming. The main culprit was the bottom bolt holding the sliver of inner fender liner I had left so those ar going as well. I have SPC UCAs and they were set at either 4.0 or 4.1 caster (can't remember which) I'll update you guys this weekend on what else I trimmed to get full stuff.20190813_185943.jpg 20191130_171141.jpg

Had time to trim up today. The image in the above post looking up is a 285/70R17 and the same view in this post is the current one with the 285/75R17. I went in to the fender to make sure I dont need to do this again. No rubbing on anything, still need to flex it more but I'll do that this weekend. I think it turned out pretty good.20191204_190723.jpg 20191204_123356.jpg

I've been noticing some rubbing in reverse. Even after molding the fender liners back a bunch.

I'm not opposed to cutting out the lower portion of the liners - like most do - but I've been avoiding it if possible. I might try and get a new alignment first, to get some more caster, and see if that helps.

This size definitely requires more work than the 34/10.5 tires.

Any one else experiencing rubbing on the rear wheel wells?

My rear is worse than the front

Been lurking on TW forever and finally decided to post a reply. I appreciate all the info on this tire size in this thread. I’m a fan in general of taller skinnier tires for both performance and fitment reasons. Unfortunately my pet tire right now, Duratracs, doesn’t come in these types of sizes. Interestingly, somewhat in the theme of the thread, the new Ford Tremor has factory Duratracs in the 285/75r18 size, which is a true 35. I’m not sure I want to dive off the deep end in Tacoma mods to go that far lol. In any case, thanks again for all of the great info and hard work!

The more I drive on these, the more I think I need additional clearance. Removed my fender flares and hoping that will help. I'm going to rock the flare-less look for awhile and see if that's enough, but I'll cut the fenders if need be. Time and trails will tell.

Scaring me a bit lol, we have the same setup and I'm seriously debating in 285/75 over 285/70 grapplers. Curious on your opinion, is all the trouble worth it?

And are those the oem wheels or the reps?

Well, what kind of clearance are you looking for? Just driving to the 'ol Home Depot the clearance was fine for me with the fenders on, but driving on some mild forest roads I started to hear a couple rubs. And I haven't even been on a real trail with them yet.

They take some work over 33's. If you just want to look the part on the road, then I think you'd probably be fine. But if you plan on stuffing them on trails, it could be a bit more commitment.

I also just ordered a front bumper, so now I'll be able to just crank the caster up. I'm at about 2.6 right now.

    OEM wheels.

I'm sort of diggin' the look without flares though. I've always hated the fat 2nd gen flares, and now with them off these tires look 20% bigger lol.

Just need to find a clean way to plug the fender holes.
