With decent suspension it could make a great car camping (overland) rig. :)

I’d love to drop the Buick 3.8 TT V6 in the taco!

Yeah, Chevy had that, and the 4.3. But, those were exceptions. And, if I'm not mistaken, the 3.8's had head gasket issues as well. I seem to remember helping a friend do a head gasket on a Buick or Oldsmobile of some sort.

Meh. A 1J or 2J would be better.

Yeah.....mostly I jest. I just find it funny how guys put blinders on when it comes to some pretty severe quality control issues out of Japan. Everyone is human and things slip through.

Oh, they've had their lemons. I think, in general, they have been better than some other manufacturers. But, they surely aren't infallible. The 3VZ and 7M head gasket issues are 2 examples. I have heard that the 2.5 V6 they used in the 80's was another lousy engine, but I can't recall why.

If OP doesn’t come back I’m gonna think its either bullshit or there is something else to the story.

Not from the factory, they didn't. There were a limited number of Regals with 3-speed manuals in the early 78-87 run, but most reports I've read is that they were phased out by 1981.

I've actually seen a GN swap in an 84-95 truck.

The GM 4.3L was a 350 with two cylinders lopped off. It was a super basic motor.

It could always be worse, one could be one of those pud knockers that buys a Subaru and installs a lift kit. I often wonder why people do this. It must be that they have low-t and weren't manly enough to get a 4Runner.

Guilty, well almost. Building a CrossTrek into a capable trail vehicle was on my to-do list for a while. I was looking for a unique build, however in my area there are a lot of modified Subaru's running around. Instead I decided to buy a Taco and put a Subraru engine in my VW Thing :p

Haha there is a dude that always happens to arrive at the gym the same time as me. He has a lifted orange crosstrek. It's got nice black wheels fit for a truck, all terrain tires and a roof rack. It looks ok but I still wonder why you would want that and not a truck or SUV. I see Jeep Renegades like that too.... Don't make sense to me.
