Elevation won't affect how 2lo works.

right, but the continuous strain of LO-mode going up the entire mountain. being in high elevation areas is difficult with my manual where if it's a really sharp corner I have to burn the clutch or risk stalling - and that's without towing. just gear in the camper shell.

Yes, it's been done actually. @7r41lbr34k3r used it for exactly that I believe. Maybe not a trailer, but heavily loaded for sure.

    Doh! :homer:

Yeah, but 58 is nice if you need to. Nothing is locking out 6th and 7,200rpm is available with OVT.:rofl:

Can you even drive that fast outside of 2WD? Thought you really shouldn't be using 4Hi above 60mph, and 4Lo (and thus 2Lo) is more for crawling and shouldn't really be going much more than 10-15mph. Going over 100mph in 4Hi and especially nearly 60mph in 4/2Lo just seems crazy and recipe for something to blow out. Maybe I'm just stuck in the past of older 4WD systems? How fast have you all gone in 4Hi and 4/2Lo?

You can but it’ll make a racket doing so. I’ve been up to like 30 or so

I think I got close to redline in 3rd. I would have to check what that is in the old OVT 6,900 setting. Otherwise, probably about 95? In 4Lo / 2Lo, about 35 on a trail and on the road to my house when I didn't get a good place to stop after some uphill traffic.

My first parttime 4WD, but the Taco is solid.

I had no issues going 30-45 when I was trekking up a mountain to get to an AirBnb. The TC whines pretty good. I'm sure in short bursts it wouldn't be bad but if you're doing it all the time fluid changes should probably be more frequent.

For the record, I am definitely not recommending you max out 6th gear in 2Lo. This mod is really only meant to aid in low speed maneuvering on pavement with a heavy load, but it's your truck, do what you're comfortable with.

I do enjoy the sound of the chain, the feel of the directly connected shifter, and all that stuff. It is an appropriate level for me. I also like to hear the timing belts whirring on my Duc. I'd like to hear more, but I'm not brave enough to run open covers.

In general, as long as your speeds aren't insane, I would say 2lo will be easier on most of the components, transmission, etc.

The previous (excellent testing by @7r41lbr34k3r if I recall) showed slightly higher front diff temps in 2lo, but nothing concerning.

In general for the same speed and incline, I would assume 2lo would give less torque on transmission gears, easier on clutch or auto transmission, etc

Just heavier strain on your rear axle components, as a trade off. Nothing it can't handle, of course (these things are freaking beasts, esp the M/T's and OR/PRO with the ginormous 8.75 inch ring gear)

Yep and assumption that if you are doing same incline and speed, rear axle torque, etc should be same (logically)

Traction is the limiting factor. If traction remains the same, assuming you're not dumping the clutch, there really isn't much difference.

A few people have dropped off, but we're going ahead anyway. I'm going to be placing the order Thursday. I will have some extras available, and after Thursday they will be available first come first served with a link in the first post.

If you want in, now is the time.

My switch showed up today! The AOB color matches the oem switch but the lettering is a little small. I can't wait for this button to work in my truck.20200313_154807.jpg
