The drum will have a wear lip on it that will catch on the pads. It will most likely take some good prying and hammering to get the drum off if you don't back off the adjuster.

Is there any other way to inspect shoe thickness without pulling the drum off?

Man it's been a long time since I've serviced drum brakes. I may need a refresher.

303tacoma I am facing the same situation this weekend. The shoes were close enough but the problem I am having is the adjuster and adjuster armature do not contact at the adjustment wheel. Does that make sense and was that the problem you had with the rear powerstop kit?

    Yea that makes sense..
My problem with the kit was they sent had the wrong size brake shoes.
Like way to small maybe for a trailer I had to eat the cost because you can’t talk to a real humane at rock auto.
I went to a local parts store and bought new shoes
I vowed to never use rock auto again, because all they wanted to do is argue with me.

Thanks, it was a shot is the dark asking but I gave it a shot anyway. I'm going back in to the rear drums shortly and replace all the parts with advance parts I picked up last night. Thanks for the reply!
