Hello everyone I'm new to this forum and have been reading through for quite some time. I really wanted to wait and buy a 2016 but it seems my current vehicle won't wait that long. As a result I am willing to buy a used truck to hold me over. While my ideal vehicle would be an access cab 4wd, used prices being what they are I have been looking at 2wd reg cab prices and seeing some lowish mileage trucks fairly priced. One problem is that one feature I can not live without is cruise control. Do any of the regular cabs have cruise? I am not willing to install an aftermarket cruise control. Does this mean I am stuck with a more expensive access cab or 4wd? I would buy a 4wd 4cyl if there was one fairly priced but the reg cab 4 cyl 2wd seem to be a lot cheaper. Thanks for any info anyone can share.

Simple answer is no. Regular cab Tacomas do not offer cruise unless you go aftermarket or install an OEM yourself.

Ok after I asked the question it seems that I have found several threads about factory parts being installed into trucks that did not come with cruise originally. Since this is not technically aftermarket but actually OEM I would consider this route has anyone had any experience with this? Is it just as reliable as if the factory had installed it? Anyone on the space coast/ central florida do the install? Any cost estimates? This route may work for me!

No experience with installing oem cruise control, but I found a take-off OEM foglight kit and installed in my 2010 4cyl, 5sp, 4x4 SR5 Access Cab. I like having cruise, and didn't realize the 2wd base models came without.

Only advice, expand your search, look farther north, there are plenty Access cabs in the 2009-2013 age for sale here. They do hold their value though.

I have a 13 base Access Cab that came with the 'convenience package', which includes cruise in the steering wheel.

If the truck is a 'flipper' ie short term till the '16s are available, I'd not bother the effort of retrofitting an OE cruise unless someone has evidence that its prewired for such and you find a steal on all the required bits.

If you are hot for a '16, and have to have a truck in between, I'd look for one with CC already on it or add an aftermarket bit. Don't know why you rule that out, but I've had several with no issues. And for a few months..........

Or you could man up and do w/o the cruise. Half the time you can't run with cruise in S Fl anyway, as the roads are too congested with wacko drivers.

Or if you don't have to have a truck during the bridge to '16 time, pick up a cheap car with working cruise.

I installed cruise control in my mother's 2007 2WD 2.7L automatic Access Cab. I only needed the lever on the steering wheel and the wire that connects it to the spiral cable. Since the 2nd gen Tacomas were all electronic throttle (as far as I know?) that's all that's needed to get cruise working.

You can also get intermittent wipers by swapping in a new wiper stalk with the intermittent setting on it.

Many base access cab models came with convenience package...which includes cruise control. Consider expanding your search to include the access cab. I also think the access cab would be easier to resell when the time comes.

Thanks for the info everyone. This seems to be the general consensus so I will try that. Prices just seem ridiculous on used tacos. Hard to justify spending that much on something that isn't new. I will look. Thanks.

I just installed cruise on my 14 using OEM parts, but I had to make a wiring harness. I wouldn't be too scared of installing it yourself or having someone else do it.

I have found that because it is a drive by wire generation the cost of an installer to do it for you is low, I would say you could find someone to do it for you around $300.

    Is yours auto or manual?

What did the wiring harness connect?

Automatic transmission. There are plenty of write-ups on here for how to.
These are the instructions I followed from www.thecruisecontrolstore.com http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/content/250-1836-2009-2013Tacoma.pdf

Wiring harness I am talking about are the blue and brown wires from the clock spring to the ECM; ground and cruise circuit.

I bought OEM cruise switch prior to investigating if my truck was pre-wired from the clock spring to the ECM. Had I looked into it a little more prior to buying the OEM cruise switch I would have known that I would have to create a wiring harness and I would have defiantly just bought the kit from thecruisecontrolstore.com to begin with.

im about to do one on a 2005 2.7 manual transmission, only saving grace is that i have clutch start cancel already so might not have to worry about the wiring.

What was the result of this? I'm wanting to do this but not sure if I've got the technical know-how to create the wiring harness. I've also got a clutch-start-cancel button so I'm wondering if that means the wiring is ready?
