I can't believe how much I love my truck now that the bad bearing was replaced. I called a local shop about doing the drivers side and was quoted $450 to replace it. I will try a few other places as well. I'm sure it will be going next. I was about ready to trade it in, but now I think I will keep it for a few more years.

Had to replace both front bearings at about 100K on my 06 DCSB (I have 135k miles now)- not long after that the driver side rear bearing started making noise - had it replaced about 2 years ago. No the passenger side rear is beginning to make noise. Guess I'll be getting it replaced soon.

When I had my left front wheel bearing replaced recently the Toyota dealer said that this is a weak point in the design and that he can't understand why Toyota doesn't use better bearings.

You'd think that someone would have come up with an aftermarket part that is better than the oem version.

I wouldn't say the wheel bearing design on the Tacoma is a design flaw, a lot of manufacturers use a wheel bearing module.

I would say most wheel bearing failures are due to a compromised cv dust seal. that seal keeps all of the outside elements out of the spindle cavity where the bearing is bolted to. Once water, dirt, ect gets in there it will eventually cause the bearing to fail.

I always recommend replacing the cv seals or at least giving them a good examination.

Try to do it yourself. $175 per side doing it yourself. image in the savings. it's seriously an easy task to handle with basic tools and a rented torque wrench / 35mm socket.

Don't pay $600 per side, it would be an insult to this forum when there is more than enough material to read and comprehend to DIY.

I'll back up everyone who said this is a easy job. Got mine done in 1hr for one side. If anyone is in the western CT plus lower NY area and needs the big torque wrench and socket, let me know and I'll let you borrow it.

    Cheers, James

Plastic dip badges. Upgraded head unit, husky floor liners, BFG ko2 tires.
I was woundeing at what milage to get them done at.? I've heard of others on here having to replace them pretty early, like 60,000 miles and others have gone past 100,000 before replacing.not looking to spend money if I don't have to, but I want to be on the safe side. I would do both at the sometime if I had to replace them. I have a 2009 double cab 4wd I'm the second owner.

Had to replace both of mine under warranty at around 50,000 miles, was still stock then, no lift or wheel spacers, stock rugged fails.

Skid plate. Roof rack. F**ked up grille.
I kind of have stock. I have the bilsteins set at .75. Put them in 1.5 years and then squeak..... 175k, one went bad.
I'm gonna do both myself. just torn between jersey or bama. lead time is critical to me as it is a daily driver. I gotta crank it out in one weekend day.
