For those of you with a 2nd gen and a back up camera, where does the camera aim? Maybe take a photo and show me?

I just had an aftermarket stereo installed in my 2010 with a factory tailgate handle that has a factory mount for a camera. The camera basically points straight at my bumper. The shop said there is no adjustments to the aim. I’m calling bull$h|te.

    Thanks

I don't have a photo to show you atm but i recall seeing my bumper on the bottom of the screen. If you post a photo of yours, maybe your post will get more traction.

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
Mine definitely has the tailgate/bumper/hitch ball visible at the bottom, but the wide angle lens is more than adequate for visibility.

But FWIW, when my tailgate is down it points directly at my license plate.

Maybe this helps too, an unaltered (stock) 2015 tailgate and camera.

Lines are about 16" and 32" behind the bumper, note the red line at the concrete joint and the blue line at the level.

(Sorry, screen is a little dusty!)

2014 DC 4x4 On my truck it looks straight back and the view is wide enough top-to-bottom to show the hitch ball and a little of the top bumper surface. Like the previous poster, I discovered by accident what a great view of the hitch ball you get when you're backing up to a trailer hitch with the tailgate down.

My son's 2016 F-150 camera view is accurate/precise enough to line up and drop the hitch right on the ball: back up, stop, crank it down, throw the coupler and insert the hitch pin. He does this with his boat trailer and his snow-mobile trailer. It's pretty impressive to watch.

IMG_6072.jpg The center bottom of the screen is actually the tailgate paint. At the corners you can start to see the edges of the bumper.

The shop is correct, there is no adjustment in the mount, it is designed so that you can see where the bumper is so that you don't hit things with it. That said when I installed my aftermarket one I felt it was a little too low so I added an 1/8" thick washer between the upper tab on the camera and the screw hole on the tail gate handle. This kicked the camera up just enough that I was happy with the view.

The 2009 I had came with the factory camera in the tailgate handle, but no display. When I upgrade the head unit this is the image I got. Sorry this is the only picture I have, and it was backed up to the garden at my office.

It looks like your view is zoomed in. Notice how wide the license plate cutout is on your video image compared with the other posters' examples? I took a look through the manual (page 32) for the DDX276BT and it does appear possible to change the zoom level. The instructions on page 32 refer back to page 12 to adjust video settings, among those setting being the zoom level.

EDIT: Also try adjusting aspect ratio...it's also mentioned on page 12.

The shop bought an entirely new tail gate handle (totally unnecessary) and it had some integrated washers on the camera mounting posts. I swapped it with the original handle, pushing the camera out the depth of the washers, and the view is better. Not like the view from my F150 camera, but better.

I have a 2013 with the picture in the mirror, about the size of a business card. I can’t use it without my reading glasses, and then I can’t see out the back.

That’s about what mine looks like. I guess it’s OK. My only other comparison is my F150 and it has a FULL view of everything going on behind it.
