A lot. Check out my build page.
Coming up on time to change the brakes on my 2014.

    Looking for options on upgrades.

I run 285/75/16 KO2s. No really added weight (armor etc) at this point. I do plan for bumpers soon but will be opting for aluminum to keep weight down.

So I don't think I need to do the Tundra brake swap or anything like that.

I do Off Road regularly. Looking for a nice upgrade option for the truck (front and back).

I have heard slotted/drilled aren't a good way to go if you Off Road due to mud and gravel etc potentially getting stuck.

Let me know what you have done and what works or what you would recommend I avoid for sure.

    Thanks TW people!

your tires are added weight, aside from not having armor yet.

my opinion would be go all oem, but maybe some ebc rotors will save you some money as well as the handful of quality aftermarket pads now out there.

    do you have 17in rims?

if so you can do a 4 runner rotor / caliper upgrade (their limited or bigger sport) front brake upgrade.

Rear drums are fine, id put money on them locking up way before the front disks.

I think you are over thinking it. Truck is designed to stop with up to 6k pounds behind it. Stock will do the job fine even armored up

I did slotted rotors, steel braided lines in the front and rear and some good pads. All in all it was about $350. Big improvement and I couldn't be happier with the outcome.

I faded brembo blanks and hawk pads twice.
And by twice, i mean 2 sets.... once i fade brakes, i chuck the rotors and pads, and the fluid. Thats just my sop.
Factory comes with ceramics which dont have the initial bite of semi metallic. We all have to find what works for our driving habits.

I've decided on stop tech cry slotted rotors, hawk lts pads and ss brake lines. I haven't been happy with the brake performance.

Are you sure? Can't imagine the truck would be rated for so much if it required aftermarket parts.

paranoid is correct. laws are different between various states but for the most part, any trailer over 3k lbs has to have its own brakes.

I really can't believe more people aren't doing this. I'm hoping my brakes go to hell soon so I can do it. :fingerscrossed:

you do need 17in rims to clear the calipers.... also the time n energy to do it.

I personally dont see the need to upgrade the brakes on our 2nd gens. BUT i do have the much better electric boosted master cylinder vs the rest of the non TRD OR 4x4 vehicles.
