Has anyone noticed that even the Tacoma’s that DONT have this grey part still have the plug for it?

I went through all the steps twice and now my airbag light is on. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Go down to your local parts place and ask to borrow a code reader - most lend them for free or will scan your codes right in the parking lot. Find out why the light is on and go from there

I've done it twice now, one with a cheap AMAZON part and one with an OEM Toyota part. With the AMAZON part, the connectors didn't connect perfectly, and I had to go back in and reconnect a few of them until the air bag light went off. The system does a continual scan and if something is not connected right, the light will turn on. That said, when you get it right, it will immediately turn off, no need for a scan tool.

Just got hit with these issues in my 2015. Kind of ridiculous that Toyota didn't recall for the later 2nd gens but this truck hasn't seen a dealer since I bought it with 50k anyway...

When I was researching possible causes of my horn going out (last week) and then my wheel controls (today) I saw a lot of chatter about a spiral cable too. Does the clock spring assembly contain the spiral cable?

I'm looking at these two parts, which appear to be the same.

    $225 - https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~cable~sub~assy~spiral~84306-0E010.html

    $40 - https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/AC/26814-02066942.html

Yes, I believe the two phrases are used interchangeably.

My recommendation is to get the Toyota part. Some have had good luck with the cheaper one but I question the timeframe they achieved lasting reliability. My cheap one lasted about 1 and a half before it went out again. The Toyota part I replaced it with is still working 3 or 4 years later.

I had a similar experience. I used the cheap part as a replacement and it lasted about 18 months. Replaced it again with a cheap part and I'm 14 months in with no problems.

In theory I could go through 5 of those cheap ones before I eclipsed the cost of the Toyota part... but I guess I should save myself the hassle.

What's your time worth? I have better things to do so I went with the Toyota part.

I’m 25 and a penny pincher, so.. not much hah! Still I do try to do things right the first time. I guess it will be the Toyota part for me.

First time I replaced it took me 45 min, second time was only 15 min. It's not a labor-intensive repair, so I went with the cheap-o part.

My 2011 started making a clicking sound at times when I turn the wheel last year. Sound would come and go. Researched a bit and suspected clock spring. No other symptoms and meant to replace it and then horn started working intermittently and now doesn’t work. All other steering wheel controls work.

Where would I see airbag light on dash where other lights display or center dash display below radio that has airbag icons on the screen?

What years was the recall for? Read whole thread and seemed like only early 2nd Gens? But Toyota kept putting in the same shitty part!? My truck is a 2011 bought in 2010 172k. I’m guessing if recall even applied to my 2nd gen they won’t honor it anymore?

Based on the reports here I think I’m just gonna buy the factory part.

Is a steering wheel puller absolutely necessary for this?

    Thanks!

Puller not needed. Just smack the wheel a few times with your hammer fist and it’ll pop right loose

I went with a chinese one from ebay, and then ordered an oem one and they were identical. One was made in china and one was made in thailand. I ended up using the oem one.

Snapped a few pics (below) of airbag display. Anyone know if this means my drivers side airbag isn’t functional at the moment? Haven’t had a chance to check the manual, so thought I would check here in the meantime. As I said, horn doesn’t work, but just curious how you guys know if the airbag isn’t functioning based on lights on the airbag display or if another light shows up on the main dash display if there is an airbag fault. First pic bo lights are on, but can’t remember if truck was on or not. Second pic only passenger airbag is illuminated.

    Thanks!

Did this tonight took about an hour including setting up and putting away tools. I also cleaned battery post and contacts while I waited for discharge and sprayed them with CRC when I was done and reconnected battery.

Went with OEM part. Be careful prying up the clips that hold the steering sensor on to clock spring. I broke one of those accidentally they are very small. Everything else went fine. Horn works now and airbag light is off. Went for a drive and she steers true and all electronics on the wheel and column work. Happiest about having a horn again! Can’t tell you how many idiots I’ve wanted to beep at in the last 6 months sitting at a green light playing on their phones or coming into my lane!

Just wanted to say thanks for the thread and videos posted on the site for how to do this. I just had my 14 y/o son replace ours. Took us maybe an hour and after buying a $38 part on Amazon saved us several hundred dollars.

Great to hear! IMO the cheap Amazon part was the way to go. I've got 3 years and 45k miles on my last one. Still going strong

Thanks for the write up on this, cruise control had been flaky/not working for a while then my airbag light turned on earlier this week, luckily one of the dealers had the part in stock, just finished replacing it, bout to take it out for a test drive and make sure the airbag light stays off, but the cruise control switch seemed to be working just fine in the driveway now. Guess I got lucky since my truck is at 16 years/ 185k miles and this is the first time this parts been replaced.

Does replacing the clock spring help fix my cruise control not working? I replaced the old switch and it still doesn’t work and hasn’t thrown any error codes out about it.. I’ve got an 07 trd sport if that impacts anything..
