    Great thread. The bike tube mod is useful even if usin an OEM replacement or for extending the life of the OEM part when you're replacing the steering rack. No zerks but just pack the tube full of grease

    just called toyota and they say theres not tsb or recall. i feel like this should totally be a recall because its a safety risk and was a design flaw. my 06 tacoma only has 95k miles and the steering is pretty sticky. $600 for a new steering shaft my ass! how much would it be for labor?

    pretty pissed that this is happening because i just got the truck a couple months ago.

    how hard is it to swap that joint out if i dont have a lift? is that one you sent an example or the right size? would i need a bearing puller or any specialty tools like that?

    You don’t need a lift at all. Yes, the one I linked is the correct u-joint. No special tools needed either than a vise or large C clamp to press the caps in with. Only issue when doing the swap is making sure the steering doesn’t spin much and break the clock spring.

    @tacomawonderer its sitting on my bench :( I have not installed it yet as i spray the current u joint with lube often and it has loosened up, this will be a summer job

    What lube do you use? How did it feel before the lube? Like you had no power steering at all?

    its more like youve got sticky parts of the steering. like a stiff part on either side. id check your power steering fluid and if that looks good id check your pump

    ive been using seafoam deep creep. u think thats a good lube or more of just a penetrator?

    First time I did it I spray it down with brake clean then compress air. Something like deep creep would be best I would think

    I used krown penetrating oil only because I borrowed it from work

    Gave it a good soak

    Might be a good idea to have someone turn the wheel while you spray it

    i just soaked in deep creep because its too cold to be outside long right now. ive just soaked it a few times and ill continue to do so. mine got hit with NH oil... its a food grade mineral oil that seems to be really good and they say it lasts longer than the fluid film so well see. it did clean right off the frame when i was climbing over a snowbank though ...:D

    A couple years ago my dealer wanted about $440 CA with tax for this part. After paying shipping and customs I saved about $150 on that price for OE part by ordering from a Florida Dealer at parts.villagetoyota.com I live in Nova Scotia.
