Guess I'll be calling them, Clutch is slow to return to top and wouldn't go into first yesterday. Not to mention its like using a non hydraulic clutch from the old days.
Any suggestions if this isn't a clutch issue?

Clutch being slow to return to top points at slave cylinder. Is there any fluid leaking in the cab of the truck under the clutch pedal? Could also be the clutch master cylinder.

No fluid on the floor. Its my sons truck. I just drove it and it does seem a little slow.
The TOB doesn't squeal like I've heard others say. Doesn't seem to be slipping.
Its just the hardest clutch to push in I've ever felt on a Tacoma.
Maybe I'll look up how to bleed the clutch and see if that fixes it. Or at least helps...

Sounds like a hydraulic issue to me. Like @wrmathis said, bleeding would be a good starting point. After that, i'd look into replacing the slave cyl. I had a clutch master cylinder go out on me, and it wasnt hard to push the pedal, and there was fluid in the cab leaking so i dont think that's your issue. I believe this is slave cyl related, in which case, it'd be a good time to upgrade to the clutchmasters hydro TOB since it eliminates the slave cyl. That is if your son's truck is a 6spd though. They dont have an option for that for the 5spd yet

Ok yeah probably a slave/master cylinder issue. Was thinking u had the TOB installed already. Unless the hydro system has been opened up probably not a bleeding issue

    It is a six speed.
I didn't really want to drop a grand into this but I will if need be. The hydro could have been opened, who knows.
I'm not sure if the clutch has been replaced. Bought it with 100K. I'll check in the inspection plate when it warms up.
    Thanks guys!

Everyone’s kits still working good? Gonna order one today I think what’s the best recommended clutch to go with it? Anything else I should change while I’m doing this?

I also did the rear main seal and fly wheel. Exhaust gaskets as well if you don’t want to reuse your old ones.

wondering if anyone went in there to install this at around 130k miles, and how the inside looked

if the clutch looked worn out at that age/mileage, or re-usable
and if the rear main seal seemed fine or not, or leaked at all.
In other words just how needed it was to spend more money installing extra parts
Supposedly teflon rear main seals are lifetime items, unless lifetime means 100k miles as seems to be with German cars.
versus brown rubber rear main seals used in older cars.

Thanks to those who replied still trying to decide on which clutch to order think I’m gonna go with a stage 3 Urd as I’ve seen others have success with it already. Any things I should let my friend who’s doing the install know before I start taking my truck apart? I saw that the directions posted on the website to do this kit was for an fj, are there any differences when doing it on a Tacoma? If so what are they?

The only difference is how the hydraulic feed line is ran. On the Tacoma there is no hard line that goes along the frame rail towards the back of the transmission like the FJ has. Hydraulic line ends up being the same length though it seems so it all works out! I know Clutch Masters wanted to get pics of it installed on a Tacoma and how the lines are ran but there's been about 50 people who have installed the kits now and none of them had questions about it so it must just be straightforward.

My kit is still working great, I've totally forgot it's in there! When I did mine I also replaced the rear main as my rig had 165k on it and I figured that was just good to do. Didn't look like it was leaking but I figured with how things go working on cars I'd get 5000 miles down the road and it would start leaking lol. It's cheap and easy to do so I just went ahead and did it. For the clutch, I might be a tad biased but my Clutch Masters FX100 has been great (I'm just stock engine). When I was looking for a rig to buy I had test drove a few with different clutches in them and the pedal feel was always stiffer then I'd like it to be.

ALSO GROUP BUY ANNOUNCEMENT COMING SHORTLY!!!

OK EVERYONE, THE TIME HAS COME FOR ANOTHER GROUP BUY!!! The group buy has been posted in the group buy section of this forum. Please either respond to that thread or PM me and I will add your name to the list.

I know a lot of you have been waiting for this to happen and Clutch Masters would like to thank you all for the support on the first group buy. Clutch Masters had hoped to be doing this group buy as an official vendor of TacomaWorld but myself nor Clutch Masters ever heard back from any moderators on how to get a vendor account setup. That's no problem as I am happy to organize another group buy!!
