    Hello Tacomaworld,

I am about to embark on epic swap that I have not seen documented before. I sold my Supercharged 2015 Tacoma with the goal of buying a 2022 Tundra. Then I realized the new tundras are plagued with problems and production issues. Additionally I didn't want another payment. So I proceeded to do what any other logical person would do. I bought a high mileage 2005 Tacoma doublecab with a clean title and a rollover GX460.

My plans are to swap the whole GX powertrain over.
Diffs (possibe regear to 4.56), gearbox (a760f 6 speed), Engine, power steering rack, electronic brake booster with traction control, secondary air injection system and all electrical to make this look as factory as possible. Looking forward to documenting this build for future swaps. I am a machinist by trade and work a regular job. The timeline on this is whenever I get it done but it will get done.

Skip to page 44 for initial start up and 46 for some glorious V8 revs.

Here are pictures of my Tacoma and the wrecked Gx460.20220423_192314.jpg 37983562_Image_1.jpg

Toyota probably has commonality with rear motor pattern lining up with transmission bellhousing bolt holes, as do other auto makers within their own parts.

in your case it may be an easier swap since you have both whole cars and can simply swap over things like cluster, ECU, TCM, etc

I am thinking the same thing. Swaps can get pricey when you don't have all the parts. It's all those other parts you have to keep buying to make it work that can get overwhelming financially. In this case it is all here. There will be challenges for sure. A couple of examples off the top would be how to get the instrument cluster to work and door locks. I plan on downloading factory manuals with wiring diagrams from TIS for both vehicles to try to integrate systems like that.

Sub me in! Excited to see an example of how these trucks actually should have come from the factory. This is THE swap I want to see.

Ooh this looks awesome, was just talking to a friend the other day about how these should’ve come with a V8 optionable.

Is the GX part time 4wd, or is it AWD with a center diff that can be locked into 4wd? I guess I’m asking if you’ll have an AWD Taco?

interesting idea, hope it all works out.

Would be easier to make more power, more mpg with an LS swap and a 4L80, But the 4.6L yota v8 is a nice one.

@dpanibratets very excited to see your progress. I think this is a brillant swap.

Wikipedia tells me the GX460 came with the 4.6L 1URFE V8..... but in China, the GX460 came with the 1GR V6! This basically tells me the 1UR should fit into your 2nd Gen Taco like a foot in a shoe...! (Eg. Motor mounts probably line up, hood clearance should be fine, etc)
