Agreed, I thought about it but can't justify 7k for it.

Y'all should totally donate some wheels to the cause when this dude gets done.

If you ever considered changing the color of the truck, now is (maybe "then was") a great time to paint the engine bay....but $$$ that isn't necessary to get this thing running.

I support a wheel sponsorship from SCS. I will be respraying the truck black but it will be Lexus black caviar color. The engine bay paint is actually in good shape, just dirty. I will clean it up and reseal some seams and thats good enough for me.

This is what the color looks like in the sun and I absolutely love it.

Here is how I am planning on mounting the evap charcoal canister. It is thinner but a little wider which is good because it will clear the bed.

Actually, the bung is already there! Here’s where the Tundra booster pulls vacuum from (not that it matters to your application):

Also, what year is your GX? If it’s after 2013, take a look at this:

Very cool, thanks for the info. I will definitely upgrade mine down the road. I am just going to work on putting it all together for now.

Do you have any plans for those mounts?

Thanks for posting this thread with so much detail, great project and progress!

Thanks for your support. The stock shock mounts are scrap metal now and not reusable.

Okay I got the charcoal canister fitted. Something to consider are the support ribs of the bed. There is a rib at the bed bolt location and the next one is 10.5 inches to the rear of the truck. I have modeled them using my crude "straight" edges lol.

2018 new Frame (thank you Rust!), FJ T-case swap. SPC(LR) UCAs, Bilstein 5100s front - rear, OME 883 at 0, HeadStrongOffRoad 3 leaf progressive AAL, MESO custom 2nd gen (Red/White) LED dome & Ultimate Maps, Spyder Halo Projector w LEDs (which SUCK), Spyder LED tails
is this question based on then using a FJ Tcase swap? (I have that now in my tacoma... and would hate to have anything less...)

So am I understanding correctly that (us with) a FJ Transfercase swaps (manual shifter) could still be retained and used..?
Is that what is being done?

I kind of went off topic there a bit. I was just curious if the manual FJ (or 4Runner) tcases would mate up to the A760 series transmissions since they are basically the same as A750 plus one OD gear. Even all the other gear ratios are the same. OP is going to use the GX tcase tho, and that one is AWD. If you were to swap in this 4.6L V8 into your truck you’d have to redo the shifter linkage since this cross member sits further back. But that would be one of the smaller obstacles on such an endeavor ;D

I got the frame painted over the weekend. My goal this week is to finish taking out the gx460 body wires. I am 50% done with that now. What I found interesting is that the GX and Tundra both have a fuel pump ECU mounted above the rear axle on the driver's side. 20230130_133555.jpg 20230130_133530.jpg

So no resistor in the engine bay? That’s how the Taco does it; either full power or half speed thru resistor

Cool, thanks... I'm trying to understand what options are available upon a (1, 2 or 3)UZ swap some day.
I've been a manual transmission guy forever, and I also hate the Toyota Electronic Actuators... I don't think a lot of manual transmissions are available, and less sure what type of Transfercase options may be possible... staying with Toyota that is.
