I chose the 1UR because it came in a Gx460. I knew I had everything to make it run in one package and the engineering was already done. I also wanted the superior vehicle stability control. If I am not mistaken the 2ur only comes in Lexus sports cars and sports sedans like is500. Electrical cross compatibility would've been impossible. From what I observed from someone else who swapped the 3ur, it didn't fit really well. This engine went into this platform like it was meant to be. Reusing the most amount of parts from the GX460 to restore this Tacoma was a secondary factor. Let's not forget, this Tacoma has 300k miles on, just about everything was shot.

The 2UR-FE is used in the LS600h(L) and Century, the 2UR-GSE is used in the IS F, RC F, GS F, LC500 and IS500.

Well I ordered up a clock spring. Extended the taillight wires and mounted them to the factory locations. Taillights and license plate lights work. Put the taillights on. Right now I am working on getting the dome lights wired up. Along with the auto dimming mirror and rain sensor.

The rain sensor is going to be interesting since the windshield comes with provisions for mounting it, something the 2nd gent Tacomas never had. I suppose you could just glue it, but it would make changing windshields be somewhat annoying.

Looks like it is just stuck on with some double sided tape. I can just stick it on below the dots on the tacoma windshield. I'll just take it off before getting the windshield changed so the guys at the windshield shop don't get upset about it.

The sensor itself is, but the decorative cover uses clips I believe. I haven't looked at one in a long time I could just be retarded.

I got the clock spring installed, from a 2016 TC and it works. My steering wheel controls work. Dome light works, fades on and off. Reading lights work. Auto dimming mirror works. Rain sensor is wired up. Just minor laundry list stuff getting done.

Perhaps the only thing happening is waiting for some bodywork and paint but I can't help but think @dpanibratets is holding out for a big splash

Don't know about others but I'm dying to hear about what it feels like to drive an all-wheel drive push-me/pull-me V8 sleeper Tacoma!

Not quite there to the painting part. Actually I have been busy getting the house ready for winter. Some of you may have noticed that a Boat has appeared in the background. We picked up a 1999 Toyota Epic 22, I am very pumped about that. It's from Texas and the previous owner didn't winterize it from 2 years ago. It has a cracked block. It came with a 1uz-fe VTT-i. I picked up an engine for it. Now that it started raining, I will have a lot more garage time and things on the truck will move along but I am also constrained with funding now lol. There are plenty of things to do without spending money so I will keep working the laundry list.

I need to figure out why the DRLs aren't coming on. I think I wired the DRL light to the correct pin on the tacoma bulb.

    HVAC after that...

    And SRS/front seats after that.

Once those two are done, the interior can get buttoned up.

I thought I was cool, but I'll never be "I took my boat to a Starbucks in front of a mountain" cool. :D

    Yeah.
Cool boat, I've never heard of one of those. What's up with those trailer tires? Back ones look bigger than the front ones. Ain't never seen that.

Love Yanmar stuff - tractor is sweet. I had a 33 hp yanmar that was bulletproof.
