Couple of questions before committing to an audio upgrade. Main focus for this project is to create a "bang for the buck" SQ system. I previously had an older S10 extended cab with a simple Pioneer single din bluetooth and hands free calling, with Polk Audio 5.25" co-axles in the doors and 4"x 6" plates in the dash running off the Pioneer. A single 8" Image Dynamics IDQ in a custom ported box with a Precision Power Sedona class D monoblock. The overall sound was clean and was plenty loud without distortion.

My questions: Looking for a non-nav double din with bluetooth and hands-free calling. Right now, the leading contender is a Kenwood eXcelon DDX392; I really want a volume knob, not buttons. I would like to maintain all steering wheel controls and hands free calling with the stock Tacoma microphone. Is this possible with the proper wire harnesses and interfaces? Was not sure if some specific brands/ or models of aftermarket units may not be compatible with these hands-free features.

Second issue: I would like to run the front 6.5" components and rear 6.5" co-axles from the headunit tapping into the factory wiring. Can components speakers with external crossovers be powered directly from the headunit and still sound good without an external amp? What brands and models, if any, would fit this setup?

Overall, I would like a new double din, 6.5" front door components, 6.5" rear co-axles, a single 10" Image Dynamics IDQ, and a space friendly sub amp.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Leveling kit, Rigid grill & 20" SR2 light bar, Rigid SRM2 diffused backup lights, Katzkin leather interior, Weathertech floormats, custom stereo integrated with factory headunit, N-Fab steps
Steering wheel controls can be kept.

I don't believe the microphone can unless you figure out the wiring harness for it, split it to give the mic amp power and ground, and solder the other two (?) wires to a 1/8 microphone jack (assuming the unit you are looking at uses 1/8 jack). I'm looking at doing the same thing for my Nexus 7 tablet-as-a-headunit install so hopefully this will work...

You should be able to run the speakers fine, but they won't sound nearly as good without an amp. You also need to add a bass blocker to them to filter out the low frequencies they can't handle. I'd strongly recommend running a simple 5-channel amp instead.

There is allot of options out there currently,
The biggest issue i see here is No power to the mids but can work if need be.

For you, i think the best option would be the H500 amp to power your front mids, coax in the rear and the 500wrms Class d section to power the sub.

You can see the h500 in his build here

If your not set on the Sub, id recommend one of our sub/amp packages with a micro chassis 1200.1 amp. This amp and its matching 4 channel is about the same size combined as many amps.

I kept the stock headunit. Running Infinity 2 OHM speakers. They are 95 DB efficient. So I used the stock wire harness. I recommend sound deadening in the doors, although I also did the back wall and the headliner. Truck is also undercoated. Makes a difference even with the windows open.
