Starting to get into making big purchases for my 2nd gen, i've noticed when i'm off roading, slow or fast the steering wheel starts to have dead spots.. like the PS pump is becoming a Damper and the steering wheel gives off the impression of free play.. Is there a way to upgrade this or fix it? I'm not familiar with the terms to be used or have the knowledge of the issue.

    Thanks,
    -JB

The steering rack has rubber bushings. You can change them out for poly http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/8.10106 It gives a noticeable improvement in steering feel.

Might also want to double-check inner tie rods for slop. Just a couple suggestions.

So, I had an alignment done a few weeks ago and my driver side tie-rod lock nut was seized, i installed UCA's and coil overs this weekend and replaced my drivers side rack end with a Sankei inner and some slightly up-graded tie rod end. When I was installing the UCA's I checked for steering play and there is not any.

the steering is very responsive and no slop at all time other than when playing in a wash, its like the rack is going through Cavitation when i start beating up on the truck through the desert, maybe i was driving it to hard on stock suspension.. i might go play in the desert tonight to find out.
