Ok so the 07 4x4 double cab long bed tows 6500 pounds. That is its max.

The 16 4x4 double cab long bed tows 6400 pounds. That is the only configuration it tows more and that was before toyota changed its towing ratings to higher standards.

It still doesn't change the fact that the 2016 has a towing capacy of 6800 while the 07 is 6500, which is what i have been saying all along.

If it makes you sleep at night, sure you're right. Oh and I'm pretty sure you are changing the facts, you edited your post number 125.

I'm surprised it took this long, but I think this thread has officially gone down the poop chute.

This thread was good until a number of people (aka The Usual Idiots) that don't own a 3rd Gen started chiming in with their useless blather. It's a shame that some people can't bother to read a post, respect the original request and move along when the post doesn't apply to them and/or they don't have the knowledge or insight to add value to the conversation.
Versions of this engine have been used Lexus for 10 years now. The D4s system is not new and since it is both direct and port injected, doesn't suffer carbon build up issues common in many direct injected-only engines. Of course I can't speak for all 3rd gen Tacoma's everywhere, but we have not had a single one come back for mechanical issues.
@Jurjen You are a Product Advisor Destination Toyota so obviously you are going to defend your brand. And you should!! It's a great brand. The reason I own a Lexus ES330 and my 07 Tacoma.

Your are absolutely correct that Lexus have used versions of this engine for years. Not sure about for 10 years though, but you should know. My 05 Lexus is not GDI. And I applaud Toyota and Lexus for this as it is proof that they see issues with this technology. Another reason I would only buy a GDI car or truck from either brand!! The reason for the port injector on the D4 or any engine is because of the carbon issues that happens in the GDI engines. Not sure how privey you are to research and development, but I can tell you this from what I see out in the field with all makes and models with the GDI technology is issues very early on in engine life. As early as 25-30k!! Oil consumption, misfires, lean conditions are a few. Not to mention the huge build up of carbon on the valves...along with oil from the blow by that starts to happen due to carbon build up in and on the cylinder rings. Now I don't think this port injector runs at all times either? So to say "The D4s system is not new and since it is both direct and port injected, doesn't suffer carbon build up issues common in many direct injected-only engines." is off base sorry! I know you are trying to defend your brand and are maybe a little offended but to say these engines don't suffer from carbon build up is wrong. All engines GDI or Port have carbon build up. Port injection just has less due to the constant spray of fuel on the back of the valves.

Maybe since you are the product advisor you can enlighten us on what exactly this port injector function is for and when does it actually inject fuel? I would like this!!

If this port injector runs at all times wouldn't that would defeat the purpose of the GDI technology? Carbon builds in port injected engines as well as and more in GDI engines. Hence the reason every gas company puts some detergent in their fuels for the carbon and deposit build up on the injector.

Anyway I am not looking to start a debate or offend anyone. Toyota makes a great product!!! The gentleman who started this thread asked for opinions so I chimmed in. Hope this doesn't offend.

You don't have to own a 3rd gen in order to have a preference over one or the other. Simple things can be found that you don't necessarilly like in a test drive or even looking at one

But as always, my original post still applies.

I also have my 2nd Gen listed. I will keep the one that does not sell. To be honest I like the 3rd Gen. But, that is a DCSB Off Road with options. The 2nd Gen is a DCLB SR5. Big difference.
The 2016 3rd Gen is a hard truck not to like if you have actually spent time in one. With both my 2nd gen and 3rd gen parked in the garage. The 3rd gen is the one I drive out with.
Which ever one we keep will be my wife's daily driver. She likes both.

my ex wife has one. TONS OF POWER from the tubo v6. even with 4x4 and 4doors, it gets 24 mpg average. it was getting 29mpg at 65mph with the "active" cruise control.

however it only has 40k miles and seems to be in the shop every month for some random shit.

I traded a 12 Sport for a 16 offroad, I like the 16 significantly more thus far. Really the only reason I traded was because I wanted an automatic, it just happens they changed generations when I was ready to buy an auto. If I would have listened to any of the shit I read on here and didn't test drive one I never would have bought one. Then again I probably wouldn't have bought a second gen either if I had read much tacomaworld prior to buying my first taco. My second gen was not without its annoying issues... It pinged (tsb didn't fix it), it had the infamous 6spd rev hang, the transmissions was clunky and the clutch pedal squeaked.

The "new" 6-speed auto is junk. Toyota is replacing some with used remans. That's not "talking shit", just reality.

I was considering trading my 2012 in on a 2016. Went and test drove one today. I just couldn't justify the cost. It really felt like it had a little less power. I liked the instruments and controls better in the 16 and I like the look. Was very disappointed that the seat still sat low and NO power seats or height adjustment. The salesmen said they had a power seat in development but it did not do well in crash tests. He says they may get one released in 2017 models. I would be looking at $12,000 to $15,000 to trade for a limited, tempting, but just not enough additional features for me to pay that kind of money.

I had a 3rd Gen Sport 4x2 for a few months. I wanted a 4x4 and sold the '16 and bought a '13 OR 4x4. No regrets here. As most people mentioned, you get more techy stuff with the 3rd gen. However, I do like how the 2nd gen drives. Feels like a truck. No hate for 3rd gens though.

Ive owned both - I traded my 3rd gen 4 cylinder for a 2nd gen V6., I traded solely because of the lack of power at altitude with the 4.

The 3rd is better built, with better fit and finish everywhere. The truck is more solid feeling, from the sheetmetal, to the interior, to the dynamics/handling.

I prefer the driving feel of the 2nd gen - in that it feels smaller, and the visibility is better. The hood height on the 3rd gen is pretty bad and effectively negates the higher driving position. Hard to completely put in words, but I like driving the 2nd gen quite a bit more. (although I think the 3rd gen responds better off pavement)

The projector headlights on the 3rd gen are significantly better than the reflectors on the second gen.

The exterior styling of the 2nd gen is much better as a whole - almost entirely because the aesthetics of the 3rd gen are completely thrown off because of the gigantic pedestrian crumple zone on the front end as well as the enormous grill. Aesthetics of the 3rd gen is ruined because of this, though the extra length of the double cabs help make it better.

The interior of the 3rd gen is very, very well designed. Simple. Although I think the gauge cluster on the 3rd gens is boring and prefer the funky 3 circle instrument panel on the 2nd gens.

Underneath the 3rd gen seems to have been better designed to not have things that seem like afterthoughts when it comes to clearance, like the exhaust hanging below the transfer case on the 2nd. The extra ride height on the 3rd gen is also an improvement.

Overall, the 3rd gen feels like an evolution of the 2nd.

I prefer my 3rd gen over my 2nd gen. I do miss small things like the oil filter placement on the 2nd gen vs 3rd gen. But at 5k changes vs 10k... its a wash. I do miss the 4.0 torquey feeling the 2nd gen had, but I'm getting used to my 3.5L V6 every day more and more.

It will deliver great MPGs when I need it or horsepower if I desire, I just have to respond accordingly.

It all comes down too, do you want a new truck or a used truck. Plain and simple. Nothing more to discuss unless your only goal is to troll. And start another BS debate. When the 2016 first came out and they still had 2015 on the lot new this question would have some merit to it, I doubt you can find any new 2015s . So it comes down do you new or used!

traded my 2013 in for the new 2016. Glad I did ! Much quieter cabin and smoother ride. I use the Qi wireless charger all the time, and the tech package & JBL is amazing.
