Also was making a choice between 2-d and 3-d, and got 2015. VERY happy with it. Going to drive it until gen 4 min. Probably longer. This is TW and people already put their money where their mouth is. This is no brainer - 2-d gen owners are going to advocate 2-d gen trucks, same with 3-d gen.

In the end of the day you will find both trucks to be great vehicles. The only recommendation I can make - buy a brand new truck.

    I've had both.

The 2016 has a nicer interior and more features (sunroof, heated mirrors, heated seats, etc). I liked the looks of the earlier trucks better (or maybe just mine) although I do like the new nose. The rest of the truck feels over styled to me.

They do drive very similarly, although the new truck doesn't feel as strong. My biggest regret with the 2G was going automatic. I never liked it and it always clunked into and out of OD, even after a warranty claim transmission replacement (who knows if the TSB for pining would have fixed it). I feel that going MT on the 3G avoided a lot of issues that plagues the new truck.

I was very close to buying a '16 OR. Seemed like a great truck. I prefer the interior, and added technology with the 3rd gen. The mpg of the new V6 is nice compared to the 4.0 also. Both look nice on the outside but the 2nd-gen is my favorite truck styling-wise. So that is tough to beat. 3rd-gen issues aside, I would buy a new Tacoma without hesitation. I settled on the 2nd-gen mainly because I have a long work commute, travel a lot on weekends etc and went with the safe bet. I literally stressed over it for a week because I really loved the '16 that I drove. But factoring in the issues people are having, the unproven track record etc, I went with a 2nd-gen. I didn't really see it as a bad thing, as I have always wanted a 2nd-gen anyways. I am 100% happy with it, but had I bought the '16, I have no doubts that I would be pleased with it as well (assuming no gremlins). To me, the 2nd-gen is like the last of the all business, badass trucks. There is really nothing too fancy about it and for some reason I find that kind of cool. But at the same time, the new features of the 3rd-gen are welcome too. But when stuff goes wrong, that would be annoying.

I have a 2014 TRD sport and I love it, however all the new upgrades of the third gen. would be greatly loved. As for the issues people are having, it makes me want to wait a little while longer and probably give this one to my gf and get a 3ird gen down the line.

Get a third gen. Looks better on the inside, and your outside design doesn't have fender wells that have this terrible shapeIMG_9614.PNG.jpg
Depending on the configuration you get, you may not have any problems. Ever.

But you didn't explain if it was 2nd or 3ird gen...so what you said is irrelevant.

OP, I haven't read all of the replies, but the opinion is invalid unless they've owned both a 2nd and 3rd gen.
