What else would you need on top of this to get it working?

Can I install it and run it for a bit to see if I like it? I should know for sure within the year. Max 2 years

Not a whole lot physically but plenty of tuning and wiring for a different ECU haga

Very tempted to do this if it’s not too impossible to remove every two years. What about an intercooler?

Would I be running a piggyback ECU for this sort of setup?

Yeah you'd need and IC for the turbo, unless you want like 3psi for the last couple of RPM, you'd need a boost controller, you'd need a lot of piping and an adapter for blow through MAF, an AFR gauge, you'd need either a piggy back like mapecu or fic or go with a standalone like a Haltech 1500 elite. Plus you'd need a down pipe made for the turbo to hook to your exhaust and wastegate. It ain't cheap or easy

Oof. Guess I’ll stick with CARB compliant SC for now then. I’m sure removing all those components every two years to pass SMOG will get tiring.

In az if the vehicle is registered in a rural county no smog test ever. So that plays into it for us locals at least.

Piggyback is possible but won't yield you a whole lot of hp. have a piggyback on a 2jzgte in an is300 using the aem piggyback. Works pretty well and I'm still able to pass Tx inspection. Shocker face on the guys at the inspection shop was priceless.

I would fail the moment a SMOG tech sees a Turbo manifold on my truck. Haha.

Who makes the manifold? Is it a custom DIY?

A guy off of the 3rd gen 4Runner Facebook Page. He supposedly makes hot rod exhaust for a living.

    It looks nice! Definitely strong.
