To my horror, it seems to mount either way. How can you tell what side goes to the pressure plate?
    thanks

There should be a sticker saying "flywheel side". But if not, usually the side where the springs protrude the most goes to the flywheel.

I went back over both the new one and the old one. I don't see any indication, or "flywheel side"

I think the top image would go to the flywheel.

EDIT: I'm wrong, the bottom one! ITS THE BOTTOM ONE. QUICK BACK IT UP TERRY!

Ha Ha Ha I learned this lesson well Changing my first Clutch .

With the car parked across a low spot in the yard .64 Chevy Nova
    3 speed.

I think we pulled the Transmission out 4 times till we got it correct.

In this case the disc would work facing in either direction installed wrong it was just made noise but worked.

Would the 3rz and 2rz orientation be the same then? If I recall, the sticker on the clutch I just installed matches the image above so I would like to recant my original statement to OP.

The toyota clutches are weird I've had them come from Exedy and Seco with the flywheel side labeled wrong which tells me its used on other vehicles that aren't as weird as toyota

Anymore good help is hard to find 2 clutch kits for the same application each kit had the the clutch disc label on a different side.

I just go by how the disc coming out was installed. Though 5 speed swaps make me dig out the FSM to double Check.

To add to the confusion, the Haynes manual says to default to the spring side if not labeled. (I know I know don't trust haynes)

I went ahead and put it in with the top picture I posted facing the pressure plate. Everything went fine. Torqued to 19f lbs. Looks like the 2RZ pic.
I messaged Asian, where my clutch kit came from, but haven't heard back yet.
If you find anything more definitive, please post here. i may be trying to put the tranny back in as early as in the morning. I don't know. Could be later. Thanks for the input.

You're putting one in too! Awesome!
It seems petty heavy to handle by ones self. I am going to try to get a helper.

No word back from Asian yet. Likely won't until Monday. I am going to try to put the tranny in. i guess there is a 50-50 chance of getting it right. I hate gambling.
