Think its the side with writing on it.

 

Curious now. Most springs face the clutch cover, little late now but I wonder if you tried it the other way around inside the clutch cover before installing it? Maybe it wouldn't physically fit.

 

@choopes how’s your install going? This seems to be helping me at the moment.

 

It should be an easy fit.

 

Just be sure the shaft is in correctly. Not uncommon to break. It is aluminum.

My friend came over this morning and helped me. He is strong and can balance the tranny on his ankle/shin. But he couldn't get the bolts to line up. What we found was the dust plate had slipped down. I should have known that. After the tranny was removed to tighten the bolt holding the plate, he tried for a bit but was too give out. So we will go back at it again next Saturday. Next week i hope to hear back from Asian. Watch some videos, talk to some of you here to be sure my orientation is correct. It will go either way.

Every clutch I have dealt with (Ford Windsor/Lima/Cologne, Toyota 22R-E/2RZ-FE) or seen has had the flattest side of the disc face the flywheel. Being opposite of that, the 5VZ-FE is an anomaly.

I just buttoned-up a clutch job on my 2RZ about an hour ago. Seriously not fun. The trans has to roll over onto the fork side and get shoved back in the tunnel. Then the clutch has to come off before there's enough room to pull it out because the crossmember isn't removable.

 

I finished mine up today, but I had a transmission jack to help me. I couldn’t have done without that.

 

The 2 pictures I posted early in this post. Which one is right? That is to say, which is the side that goes next to the clutchplate? It will go either way.

I can't really tell from your pics. Look at it from the side; the side that sticks out more would go toward the pressure plate. I think that may be your first photo.
