Motor seemed to be okay other than the leak but the crank damper was broken off during the wreck. I didn't do a compression test after it started puking oil, so I can't say for sure about the overall health of it. I already took it back out and back to the yard though. I got pissed that they hid the issue from me so I took it all back apart and cut my losses.

Thinking about trying to take mine apart and learn something now.. I have already come this far, seems like if I can tear down the old one, and take the block & head somewhere to get cleaned up then I may be able to turn this situation around. Does that sound like a ridiculous proposition? I have never worked on motor internals but I am gonna have to learn at some point. Seems like a good opportunity to try

It isn't. There have been a few on here who have done just that.

Correct. 4.10 would be perfect IMO for stock tires on a 3rd gen 2.7 (MT).

    4.56 - 265’s
    4.88 - 285’s
    5.29 - 315’s

IMO if you want the best performance.

So I noticed some interesting numbers with my AFD air intake. I used it for a few months 2 years ago when I first got the truck but took it off for the winter. I left it off last year thinking I was going to be selling the truck. Since the truck didn't sell, I put it back on this year a couple of months ago. But I decided to add some heat wrap I had sitting around to the metal tube to help keep the temps down. I was looking at some of my fuel mileage notes and the year without the intake my best 5 back to back fillups averaged 17.09 mpg. This year, with the intake and heat wrap my last 5 back to back fillups averaged 17.76 mpg. All of these back to back groupings were in the same timeframe of the year (May - Aug) so air temps are not really a factor and they each had a combination of local/highway driving. I'll see what the next few fillups look like, but it does seem to indicate the intake is worth a bit of increased mpg even if there is no power gain.

Updated to reflect 5 back to back fillups now. When I do the next fillup I'll update to show 6.

Loving this thread a lot sub'd. I like this cause im going to do the urd sc. However im concerned about how the stock internals will take it or not. If I have to rebuild or upgrade the internals I will or get another motor and build it up

As for the above; my 2006 2.7 5spd MT gear ratio is 3.91 not sure how or why its like that but I do want to regear it with either 4.56 or maybe the 4.10.

    As for upgrades:
    LCE header
LCE Pro flow cat back exhaust
aFe stage 2 cai. (Retuned MAF sensor compliments of visiting gadget up in MD)

You'll be good to at least 11 psi. That's what my friend ran on his.

I'd wager that, you being a PreRunner, got you the different gearing vs a 4x4 2.7. Which is a lil strange since nearly everything else is identical.

I'm pretty sure the Prerunner and the 4x4 2.7 got 4.10 gears.

Yea, I think that would be correct if he had a 3rd gen. But he said he has a 2nd gen, so I'm almost certain he has 4.10's from the factory.
