As excited as I am that it's finally released, I think I'm still going to go with a haltech now that I've looked into them as extensively as I have. Especially for copying taco4x4's gtr coil setup and 80mm throttle body.

id like standalone but there is a certain somethin about the factory features. I dunno how easy it is to hook up cruise etc to standalone. Im not even sure, maybe ovtune can allow a map sensor retrofit. We could then just run the right size injectors for boost and use the mapecu3 just for meth. Considering I drive the play toy daily. Ill probly stop after i dial in stage 3 and then switch over to rear suspension setup

I think I can essentially use the haltech 1500 as a piggyback and keep all my factory gauges and radio stuff working with the stock ecu, while utilizing the haltech for engine management.

I didnt think about losing the creature comforts. That would be cool if you could use the factory ecu to control everything but the motor though and manage to make it all work. How did 05taco4x4 set his up? I thought he added cruise to his single cab and he has the haltech

That's a good question, I haven't asked him yet, I wanted to be farther along before bugging him more about this build. I might get his performance fuel rail that he makes to go along with the intake setup.

I believe he makes his with bigger runners so more fuel flow. I'm aiming for 500hp or 25lbs of boost, so I want to eliminate any restriction in fuel flow. It would suck to get it all running and on a dyno only to find out I'm lean because the fuel rail won't flow a high enough volume.

curious, is LCE doing the camshaft for you? You going fixed or staying VVT?

LCE actually referred me to the shop they recommend for cams, WEB. Spoke with them on the phone and the process is to send in my stock cams, give them a list of my specs and mods, they'll configure the grind to work with that list. Six week turnaround time, 1k all said and done. I'll be staying vvti, haltech supports it.
Edit: LCE said to get my cams done first, because once they tell me the lift and duration of the cams, LCE will grind the valve reliefs into the pistons I'm ordering for me before they ship. I'm also going to ship them my head to have them do the entire valvetrain modification and installation

SWEEEET! My truck is primarily an off-road machine so I really like the VVT due to the increase in torque compared to the non VVT 3rz. That build is gonna be sick! Im glad your doin it first cuz, youll have all the ins and outs for the next steps past what everyone currently runs. And I know after the rear suspension build ill cycle back to exactly what your doing right now. I used to think it was so crazy reading @Torspd build and reading about all the extra engines and blocks laying around for different levels of the build. But now... lol just seems like the right way to do it. Go BIG break it and then put the daily back in with low boost and repeat with better equipment next time.

Well, I've only got two blocks, the one in the truck and the one going to go in. My plan with this build is buy once cry once (for awhile.) so I'm building the shit outta the engine so it'll hopefully survive my learning steps.

Seems like you're hitting the limiter quicker than the gauge displays. Normal in the lower gears.

Haltech updated their softerware for cruise control function. He does have it.

Is that just the gauges not being able to keep up bc it revs quicker in the lower gears?

awesome.. now to complete our Tacoma builds we need aerospace featherlight Tach needles so our gauges can keep up with the data input. JK but that is interesting, ill have to read up on that, i never noticed it. Mine seems to pace with it perfectly
