2TR-FE Performance Thread

Ouch. Lots of ouch. Weird too. My buddy was running around 13 psi for a short while. Super glad that his didn't grenade.

If you're getting a used replacement, what are your plans with it?

 

I have since aquired 2 core engines. One is currently being setup to be a stock fresh rebuild with standard bore. Second block already has arp top/bottom studs and head is at LCE for porting/cams/valves. Forged 8.5:1 pistons and rods are also all paid for and awaiting delivery. Both blocks will have balance shaft deleted. It all takes so bloody long to get things together and rolling, LCE has gained me a lot of traction. Boost limiting valve pictured will be set at ~3psi and tig welded into the cold side tank of the intercooler. Current 80mm pulley will stay on along with MAP ECU3 and 5th injector. This will all stay on the stock block. Build block is getting a haltech with integrated water/meth injection… yes, ouch. Lots of ouch.

Once the built block is done ill open up the boost back to the 9-10psi range and see how i like it. Im only clutched for 385hp so i probly wont be able to go much above that.

 

I really assume its purely due to the dead weight of the trailer, oversized tires etc. it was totally fine until the first trip towing a trailer with a side by side, it was decetly loaded down, dirtbike, SXS and all the camping gear and i wooded it in 3rd to pass a quad cab with a toy hauler and it held for a long time during the pull. But let loose after appx 10secs of floored action. Never even saw redline. I need to get some pics of the piston to show. Ill do that tonight

 

Your built engine will likely be the new one to replace @MrCrowntown 's It will be far stronger than 385 too.

Mine is sad, and needs to put in its new home. Damn not having any freetime!

either some wicked will power or lost the go fast mojo, i mean how is that even possible. I swear once ive got product in hand ill probly take a vacation day to install. After waiting 8months from the point of block impact im getting antsy to hear the side dump rev limiter again

 

If I remember correctly, he runs his own business and business has been booming. Also the truck or engine is somewhere else in the country and he still needs to rectify that.

edit: I also believe his was a prerunner/desert hopper build? I can't remember 100%

You're telling me! Been talking with LCE and others about this build for a year... then I have to go and try to buy a house. Talk about a money suck. And restoring a classic British car.

 

Skip that drama lol. Buy a sick hauler and live in overland mode with a car trailer.. “in a van down by the river, livin on government cheese”

 

Has lce or any other company produced a turbo cam for the 2.7l or is it just custom order

 

Custom order so far. Best experience of contact and talking details has been with WEB cams. Six week turnaround, you send them your stock cams they modify and have it back to you. 1100 said and done.

edit: for what it's worth, LCE is who recommended I contact WEB cams.

 

Correct! Still in the shipping crate lol it took so long to get the motor from them as it was used for R&D, that my whole work and state location changed while I waited.

 

I could knock that out in a weekend.....

Hmmm going to have to contact them. I have a motor that i picked up for 200 so hopefully this winter is getting tore down and rebuilt to harness the power of the gods lol. Just need around 20 psi of boost.

 

That sounds delightfully fun.
