The oil pick up tube gasket part: 15147-75030 seems to be for 2nd gens.

According to mcgregor it doesn’t fit my 2016. It lists 15147-75041 for 2015+. Though it lists the former 75030 as fitting up to 2011 only.

as always double check with your vin.

For anyone looking for a quality valve cover gasket at a more budget friendly price, the Mahnle VS50571 is made in Japan. Maybe potentially rebranded from the OEM supplier. Made in Japan nontheless

Edit: this does not fit 2016+, it’s for the VVT models up to 2015. Makes sense as my original one was 1 piece.

Anyone doing VVTI cam phasers, I was not able to find any aftermarket options for the intake phaser, however I was able to find an aftermarket option for the exhaust side. Standard Motor Products VVT683 is what you want.

More than likely it’s repackaged OEM. Product is made in Japan, and bears Toyota part number. The intake phaser is from Toyota as I couldn’t find an alternative. MAJOR price difference.

It appears something has changed on BOTH makers of phasers. The original parts on the truck don’t have the “JK” engraved, the new parts do, BOTH including the Toyota one as well as the aftermarket exhust.

I will say the standard motor exhaust phaser is made in Japan where as the OEM Toyota intake phaser is made in Indonesia.

Either-way I feel confident installing these components. My goal is to spread information to the masses, and my 2.7 brethren. Notice that the Standard Motor exhaust phaser bears the Toyota part number. In my opinion this is such a specialized part that there’s one producer on this planet and different “labels” put their brand on it from the same manufacturer.

Anyways, I have a 2016 Tacoma which is the first year they offered VVT-I on the 2tr. Previously they had VVT. In other words 2016 is the first year they offered variable valve timing on the EXHAUST valves.

Looking at different pictures on the internet and different documentations it appears some changes have been made. Aside from the cam phaser if you look at the older engine with the VVT technology they ran camshaft lobe lubrication via a copper pipe oil circuit. Looking at my 2016 design the copper pipe circuit has been replaced by a plastic design built in the valve cover itself. This means the copper pipe circuit has been deleted and that the head to valve cover bears an o-ring to maintain a seal/pressure for proper lubrication. I’m actively working on this repair so in the next couple days I will find the part numbers and post documentation.

I cannot emphasize how much I appreciate and how much the spread of free information means to me. I’m currently replacing the cam phasers and timing chain on my 2016 2tr so if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

My error, these fit 05-15. 2016+ is a different beast. The valve cover has changed in many ways, the factory gasket was 1 piece. The correct part number for 2016+ is 11213-75050. Seems like the shape has also changed to a degree, including the timing cover in order to accommodate the exhaust phaser. Yes, 2016+ timing covers are also different!

Aside from the wrong shape the valve cover it self isn’t grooved as deep so the gasket sticks out like 3/8”. No way it would seal even if you got it to fit.

    IMG_2854.jpg
    IMG_2855.jpg

To reiterate, if you have a dual VVTI 2016+ look for a single piece design. I went with OEM because the dealer could have it the next day for $36. $18 if you buy from an online OeM supplier. So it might not be worth trying to save a buck on this one.

    IMG_2858.jpg

As far as 2016+ stuff goes, you now have two new gaskets. These seal oil circuits between the head and the valve cover to work the exhaust VVT system as well as the camshaft oiler circuit Phallic shapes seem to be a common theme on this engine

I made a quick guide to help make sense of the gaskets on the timing covers. Based on my limited research it seems like the o rings are universal from 05-23. The water bypass pipe gasket shows to be good for 11-21. I always highly encourage you to make sure these parts fit using your own vin number! Sometimes it’s just worth it to have a dealer order you the correct part number and get shafted versus risking damage or having to redo a job!

Also note that there is a gasket between the sump pump and at the bottom of the timing cover where the oil pump inlet is. This is very year specific from what I’ve seen. There’s 3 different part numbers. It does appear pre 2016 they use an o ring and the oil pump inlet had a physical cutout for the o ring. Based on schematics it looks like early 2nd gens had a metal gasket and the sump was bolted on, meaning the oil pump needs to be removed. This is just speculation though. I can say in2016 they changed the design. The gasket sits in the sump pump and the oil pump inlet is machined flat.

Recently came across yet another thread about that Blitz supercharger system. With a bit of digging I was able to get a link to their installation guide online:

    https://www.blitz.co.jp/support/manual/compressor/bcs_10197_manual.pdf

It’s all in Japanese, but perhaps those of you more familiar with the engine bay can have a look at the pictures to better confirm if this will actually work or not. It does look like it sits very similarly and has a similar parts list as the LC engineering systems for the 2 and 3rz. My new job allows for travel to Japan, so I may try to pay a visit to their storefront next time I am able to.

If I can get the pdf translated I’ll be sure to add that here for further review.

Google lens does a decent job translating German, maybe it'll work well for Japanese too? It uses your phones camera and translates the text on your screen.

I am pulling my 2tr-fe to make way for a TDI swap. The engine has just under 200k miles and runs well but does consume about a qt of oil every 1500 miles what would be a good asking price for it?

I hate to say it but you can almost ask whatever you want because they're not up for sale very often. I sold one recently that I had been told had a bad valve (unconfirmed and I never opened it to check) for about $500. I know replacements from a yard are usually a grand or two with a 300-500 core charge. So for an engine that runs but needs a rebuild, probably just piston rings as that's the common issue around that mileage, I'd say you could ask around 1k or so?

Hey guys. If anyone needs/wants a magnaflow muffler that’s mocked up with the exhaust hangars and tubing for their truck, and is in the Raleigh area, send me a PM. I got it installed and fabed up and then ended up not liking the sound and went back to stock. It’s yours if you want it
