Replaced worn parts Ball joints,Rotors, brakes, spark plugs,
There is no down side .The 3RZ FE is derived from the 2RZ FE (witch is more dependable and reliable than a 22re),and its the same design but the 3rz is a 2.7l vs a 2.4l in the 2rzfe. Nonetheless, the 2TR FE is derived from the 3rz except nearly identical design except it is has a VVTI HEAD. Reliable on proven technology,My 2rz fe tacoma has 380,00 regular maintenance, nothin wrong with the engine.

I have a 2005 4 cylinder which is the 2TR-FE motor. Not sure if any of you guys have this old of a truck, but there's two things I've notice if you don't take of it, it'll cost you a lot more later to fix. Exhaust gas recirculation pump when it goes out exhaust gases backflow overheating rubber and plastic parts causing a fire! Plastic bypass heater tube will self destruct over time and leak out all of your antifreeze! Temperature gauge won't see it overheating cause the sensor is located top part of the engine block, it only senses water!

That happened to my 2006 and thought it was because I mixed Prestone OAT antifreeze with Zerex HOAT antifreeze.

Zerex "Asian" Hoat is fine to use, you just don't want to mix OAT with HOAT antifreeze.

Nah, I change my oil with the factory weighted synthetic oil every 5K miles and yes, I've rev this motor out pretty hard on my way to vegas on the 15 plenty of times...shit went down when I removed by fender liners to accommodate the tires and went into a mud pit much deeper than I anticipated.... the stock snorkel system became a massive straw and took in the mud all the way past my throttle body.

Needless to say, I must have blown my valve seals or burnt my valves with debris on top of frying my bearings - since I only have 130ish psi compression in the cylinders and it now ticks. I haven't done a leak down but at this point... don't really care about that...

Here's what happened at the mud pit....

Yeah, I call it being lucky!!! When I went through, I had the CEL and the motor was stumbling, barely keeping idle. Once I opened the hood, it was like...WTF... took care of the CEL by cleaning the MAFS with water and a pick to get all the pebbles out and got it towed. Once at my shop, flushed the oil 4 times - in doing so, found silt contaminated in the oil. In between the oil changes, I was experiencing the low oil pressure light upon the engine stumbling.

Fast forward to now... changed the plugs, 2 more oil changes now, new air filter, cleaned the MAFS with the PROPER cleaner - and BAM, excellent idle and still runs! Yeah, the truck doesn't pull anymore from 3500 RPM but the 35s and the armored bumpers don't help either. I was planning on driving this until the engine creates a window...
