2TR rebuild

Yes too fast in water. Was only like 12-16 inches deep but at 25 mph. But now i am not completely sure that the water had anything to do with it.

 

Still purely speculation but if it is the balancing shaft seized how bad would it be in the long run if I just disconnected the chain from the balancing shafts and ran it without them in operation. I see that people install deletion kits into 3rz's for racing. Just really want to get back on the road and not buy a new engine. Only need to get a few more years out of this engine until I get a new daily driver and can do a 2uz swap.

 

Deleting the balancing shafts, can be done. You'll have to keep the rpms low though, as there will be bad harmonic vibrations. If an engine has balancing shafts, it doesn't have a balanced crank.

Those who delete the shafts for racing, do so by balancing the crank. There for the it removes the need to have the shafts.

 

Gotcha. What I'm reading in the reviews on the delete kit for the 3rz is that there is not a noticeable difference in vibrations. I'm guessing there could be internal vibrations not noticed that could still effect the components. Either way I'm really considering it so I can get my truck back on the road.

 

There will be. All depends on the design of the engine, as well as how well balanced the rotating components are prior to the addition of the counterbalance shafts.

I removed tbe shafts from my friend's 2AZ. As they had spun the bearings and couldn't fixed.

His is drivable, but as long as he keeps his revs below 3500. By recommendation of the designing engineer.

 

That sounds exactly like my predicament. Only time I ever go over 3500 is when I'm wheeling and 2wd isn't working for me. But I'm going to give that up now that this happened so I think staying under 3500 shouldn't be a problem.

 

This is all assuming the rest of the engine is ok though.

 

Exactly. Which is why I said earlier that this is all speculation until I get it out tomorrow and tear it apart. And I have my fingers crossed that it is. Pictures and info to coming tomorrow.

Looking at s bent rod and potentially seized balancing shaft

 

Bent is potentially better than breaking. Might have more salvageable an engine than expected.

 

Could a rod be replaced with the engine I'm frame. Rod on #4 cylinder is bent

 

How would you disassemble it from the piston?

 

Well I was already planning on pulling it but someone asked if it was possible and I quote frankly didn't know

 

You'll need to pull the head.
