I have used this mod several times for taking a boat out at the boat ramp. Very useful!

This is great to find, I so miss 2wd lo. I used it all the time on my pretaco 95!

Just really intimidates me to mess with the electronics on a brand new truck... BUT I'm gonna do it, I really used the 2wd lo all the time with the other truck, specially around the farm, wet grass, steep gravel... creeping situations.. it seemed to be way easier on the clutch too! Thank you Alan, wonderful mod... how did you figure this out? Very cool!

Has it been determined that it will work on a 12? I may have missed that!

Spent lots of time looking at tacosupremes setup and then the wiring diagram in the SVC manual. Finally got it right and it works great.

I believe that several have talked about the 11 and 12's in this thread. I think the the traction control and the vsc may add some additional work to get this mod working correctly.

11's and 12's might be a bit different, but my '05 has full traction control/VSC and this mod worked just fine for me.

Why does this mod scare me so much. So does anyone know if it works on a 2013. I need it a couple times a week at boat ramps. If any one has pics of the wiring it may help me get the guts to do it.

I'm with you Tacomawv. I would also love to have this mod, but I am kinda freaked to do it on a Truck still under warranty.

I miss transfer cases with levers.

With this mod, can you engage the rear locker in 2 lo? I assume you would be able to, since the ECM will think it's in 4 lo?

Yes because the ECU thinks it is in 4Lo. Any particular reason you ask? There is a mod that will let you engage the locker any time you want that is a bit easier to do than this one if you are just trying to engage the locker in 2wd.

I tow a camper quite a bit, so I want the ability to use 2Lo while maneuvering it. I don't *need* the locker in 2Lo, per se, but it's a nice secondary advantage.

    Thanks for the information!

I removed the glove compartment today, along with the black plastic cover, in order to have a look at everything. I have three questions, if you have time to answer. (I'm dealing with a 2006)

    1. Do the colors on the wiring diagram match the color of the wires in the connector? I found all the colors in the connector (red, green w/black tracer, red w/blue tracer, and green). What makes me ask this question is that the wires are not beside each other, rather they are spread around in the connector. Just want to be sure I clip the right wires.

    2. In the diagram, the "ADD" wire (green w/black tracer) has something in the middle that's labeled "PA - PB" and has "17" and "13" in the gray box. Is that important for this modification, or is it just something on the diagram?

    3. Where does the black wire at the far right of the diagram come from? It's labeled "W-B". Is that wire supposed to be in the same connector with the others? Or is that just any random ground wire that I can find under there?

Here's a picture of the connector and it's location, in case anyone wants to see it.

Alan (OP) contacted me via PM to answer my questions. I felt like they might help someone in the future, so I'll post his answers below.

Someone asked for pictures of the wiring. I have not yet installed it, but I have wiring harness "built". I chose to make this on a table, rather than trying to do it under the dash. It might look a little complicated, but it was very easy with the help of the wiring diagram. Each of the 8 wires that interrupt the ECM are labeled as to where they go. The only connections left to make are the ground wire, and the 12V power source for the switch.

Also, I went ahead and clipped the wires under the dash and added the connectors, just to be sure everything still worked as it should, before installing the relays.

I'll update with more pictures once I install it.

I ended up using 8pin ice cube style relays with bases. This way if the relay dies I can just unplug it and plug in a new one. Don't have to touch the wiring. These type of relays are readily available as well.

Just updated the single switch diagram. I had mistakenly upload the wrong diagram drawing when I updated a few weeks ago. Sorry about that. My fault :(
