The diagram that is loaded in the first post is the correct one. Shouldn't have any issues with this one.

I plan to do this tomorrow assuming I can come up with all the parts. I deal with similar relays at work all the time, but those all have 24vac coils, and I don't think 12vdc would quite trip it.

for those who want to have a track to mount the relay bases to, look up "din rail" on google. it is typically sold in 4 foot pieces, but if you talk to the right person, they can cut you off a 4" piece which is plenty long for 2 relays.

    quick question for you 07tacoswb
on your relays in the drawings, you just have numbers. do the numbers work out as 5 and 6 are common (separate poles of the relay of course), 3 and 4 are normally open, while 1 and 2 are normally closed? the relays I deal with are work are numbered completely differently, and have a base they plug into (idec relays). Thanks

With the relays that I bought 1 and 5 are closed and 2 and 6 are closed. 3 and 4 are open. When the relay is energized 5 and 3 are closed and 6 and 4 are closed leaving 1 and 2 open. This is what tricks the computer to thinking that the front diff is grounded so it shifts to 4wd not knowing that the front diff isn't engaged.

So if anyone can help me . I did this mod. And it will now only go in 4whdrive if I turn the switch on. And theres alot of beeping and chirpping goin on to . What type of relays are you gonna need for this mod ... normally closed or opened ? I used the ones from RadioShack. It looks kinda like the guy who uploaded a pic on here a few post up . There clear relays you can see through . I looked all over on the packet and don't see where it says what type of relay it is meaning the normally closed or opened relay.

With the switch turned on and your selector in 2wd, turn the truck off and then back on. Is your 4wd light blinking?

When the switch is on and the truck is in 4wd is it really in 4wd or does it just think it is?

Just testing a couple methods to see which direction the relays might be working.

well I have 3 pics I got tonight , are these relays the right ones to use for this mod.
and this next pic the red wire that I have going to a ground location , is that where I need to ground it . Or is there a wire coming out of the other ECU plug that I need to tap into to ground

And lastly this pic of the one green bigger wire and theres a small wire Do I have the right wire the thicker wire , Im not sure if I d have the right color of green wire here?

Looks like you have relays for 120v AC Coils not 12v DC

I grabbed a couple relays from work that are designed for 24v ac on the coil. I tested it on the battery from my work van and that 12vdc tripped it. Pretty sure that these relays were really designed with coils to go 10-30V ac or dc. The relays are Rib (functional devices brand) 2401D, which is a 2 pole relay, so each relay controls 2 circuits simultaneously. That to me is easier than 4 individual relays. I have yet to put them in. I haven't even cut wires yet to put relays inline.

Has anybody done this yet on any taco later than 09?

You can ground it anywhere - that part doesn't matter.

Re: the green wire - the numbers on the wiring diagram correspond with the pins in the connector. Start at the top left, looking into the connector, and count across the top row, then continue on the left side of the next row. Use a wire that you know to be correct (like the red one) and make sure your numbering is right. The solid green should be #13. The green with black tracer should be #26.

Here is where I used for ground: jahu7yhy_da9adf6c1d77ef1582ae625bf10409538ef5423e.jpg

OK so you know there's 2 green wires . A thick green wire and a small green wire.
Well I had the thick green wire hooked up to the relays. So I decided to go and swap them around and see if it would work.
So I put the ends on the small wire and hooked it io and I test drove it on the side of the highway a few mins ago and power braked it and it works . So a big thanks to Brady and 53flattie and the rest if the guys .
