2wd LOW

    The only way to make this work is to get both the signal from the front diff and the computer to think the front diff is locked because it's going to want that info before it moves into, First, 4wd drive and then 4wd lo. You see the '05 + Tacoma t case does not have two shift rods like the other cases do. it only has one that moves forward and backwards. To engage 4wd it moves one space back and then to engage 4lo it moves another space back. The t case MUST be in 4wd to get 4lo an he front diff MUST be engaged for the t case to go into 4wd in the first place.

    I'm sure there is but the trouble to go through for such a small benefit is way too much for me to mess with.

    I see what you are saying. We'd have to find a way to send the signal to the 4wd ecu. Yeah that's beyond me.

    Edit: I added some more with the hopes somebody who works with this kind of stuff can check it out.

    I'm sure you've said it before but what's preventing use from taking off the actuator and putting a lever on our case? It seems like this would be our cure and then we just use the dial for the add.

    I read this but it doesn't go into specifics as to why the electronic case can't be modified just that the fj case is ideal.

    EDIT: In essence you can not skipp 4wd HI to get to 4low. So no other modification will work unless you do what he did..

    I understand that but if you can engage 4wd and then 4wd lo with OUT engaging the add then you in essence are in 2lo. Unless I missed something these seems like it would work out if you could yank the actuator off and put a manual lever and put in in 4 lo without the computer knowing.

    refer to above and the actuator controls a shift rod or what ever the technical term is. I'm suggesting take it off and put a manual lever in it's place.

    Reverse is too high and so is 1st at the boat ramp and moving the boat around the yard.

    Thanks. I was looking for that one.

    So without the motor there is no sensor. So I see it as with out the motor we are in the same position as the manual fj cases swapped in as far as the add goes.

    This makes me wonder if we could stash the actuator somewhere and use a manual lever to engage 4lo and when we want the front diff we use the dial.

    First of all the motor is in a less than ideal place to try and work a lever into the cab. Second you would have to engineer a housing that would make the connection between the lever and the case a weather tight setup. All of this makes it much more of a hassle and investment than it is worth. If your that set on it just buy a FJC case and go that route.....

    ah yes but what fun is life without a challenge;) I see your point on the complications and now that you mention it the manual way being too much trouble, I'm sure a qualified engineer could figure a way to trick the ecu to think the add is engaged and really wire up a second switch to it or something along those lines.

    Ideally I would just do a Marlin but I personally can't justify the expense and the work required to install it properly(mostly the cross member).
