Started this thread for those who are buying 2WD. Where they live and drive primarily. Why they chose 2WD and What they are doing with them and whether or not they get buyer's remorse and wish they would have purchased a 4WD.

Personally I have no need for 4WD where I live. no snow, no Dirt roads that especially require a 4WD. Saving on insurance, maintenance and $3000 up front. Slightly better towing weight as vehicle Gross weight is reduced

I am also getting the 2wd sport, but LB. I just use it to lug my dirt bikes and metal supplies around.

If I do any serious off roading, I do it on a dirt bike.

My 2007 Tacoma is a 4x2 and has served me flawlessly as did my 1987. No need for 4x4 where I live, San Diego.
I haul things from time to time but that's it. I like Toyota, there good solid reliable trucks. I've had many, many Ford trucks (5) they were good too but not as good. I'm really looking forward to my new 2016 Tacoma Limited.

Mostly city or highway driving, and rarely improved gravel roads. Even when I go out into the country, the truck stays at the campsite and I walk. Austin has narrow surface streets because they retrofitted bike lanes everywhere, and FS trucks are too wide.

Long bed because I'll be damned if I'm breaking my fishing poles down, and my bike will lay flat under the tonneau when I'm at work.

Though I am not in the market now, I have owned several 4 cylinder 2 wd toyota trucks and one six cylinder 2 wd. I own 4 wd now but only becasue of where I live. I really liked the 2 wd better then 4 wd for on road travel. The 6 cylinder in 2 wd is my favorite because of it's overall performance when not encumbered by the 4 wd system. Many buy 4 wd trucks and then when they sell them, proudly announce that they had seldom used the 4 wd and expected that to be a selling point. It isn't. You have to use it regularly. If you don't, just get 2 wd and have a much better performing truck.

The reason I decided on a 2WD is because I genuinely don't need the 4x4. This is my first truck, so I thought this would be a great starting point. I don't tow anything and I will be using it mostly on the highway as my daily driver. Also the cost with all the features I want in a truck is well within my price range. It gives me more money for mods.

    Not my first rodeo......or truck.

I live in Northern California and have never needed or wished I had 4WD. Even when we had a cabin @ Lake Tahoe, 2WD did the trick just fine.

Two previous vehicles were 4x4, maybe used it 10 times in 10 years, because I went to places to use it, but there's not a day I regret I bought a prerunner and not a 4x4., just because now I can't go to those places...!

If you're careful, you would be surprised where you can go. A Prerunner has excellent clearance and the LSD works great. If you add weight to the back, it increases the traction dramatically.
